Motshekga disappointed by FNB text leak

2013-01-28 10:21

Johannesburg - Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said on Monday she was disappointed that a private conversation between her and First Rand Bank CEO Sizwe Nxasana was leaked to the media.

"We distance ourselves from this leak because it is a serious matter and we will approach the relevant security agencies to investigate," Motshekga said in a statement.

"We apologies [sic] to Mr Nxasana for the mishap."

The Sunday Times reported that Nxasana sent an SMS to Motshekga on Monday after a child called her "brainless" in one of its "You Can Help" videos.

"Good Morning Minister. I have instructed FNB to remove the video clips from their website this morning. I will investigate how and why the clips ended [up] on their website. Sincere apologies for this. Sizwe," the SMS read.

The FNB campaign features a number of videos of children in school uniform reading their hopes for the country. Opposition parties and activist groups said the ANC's criticism of the campaign showed its intolerance.

FNB met with African National Congress leaders, including secretary general Gwede Mantashe, on Thursday. The bank apologised to the ANC on Friday.

Clever child... Not so far from the truth is she???? lol

      silenta.solly - 2013-01-28 10:43

      YOu lot are shallow

      John Turner - 2013-01-28 10:44

What do you mean "not far from the truth", the child scored a bullseye.

      freddie.miff - 2013-01-28 10:53

An EDUCATION minister who cannot SPELL!?! That says it all about the ability of ANC cadres.

      gwilym.howes - 2013-01-28 11:02

      Perhaps Freddie should apologies? (LOL)

      pierre.pretorius.370 - 2013-01-28 11:12

Why is the CEO of FNB and a government official communicating on a personal basis? Lekker corrupt...

      freddie.miff - 2013-01-28 11:19

@Gwilym... my sincerest apologies to you, but I will never apologise to any clueless cadre.

      squeegee.pilot - 2013-01-28 11:47

Typical misdirection... don't address the issue, make the leak the issue. Brainless.

      asdhasgd - 2013-01-28 11:48

Solly i dont think you know what Shallow means T_T

      james.hunt.161214 - 2013-01-28 11:58

@Freddie:- If the spelling was the only issue one could still have overlooked it but that is but the tip of the iceberg when it comes to things they CANNOT do. If only the members of government could excel in their respective responsibilities in the same manner (and as swiftly) as they can think-up some spin-docketing. Masters at deceit and alibi-management; always find someone else to blame... Eish!

      tersia.louw.12 - 2013-01-28 12:01

Silenta.solly, please give reasons for posting that "YOu lot are shallow". I really have no idea why you're opining what you are opining.

      amanda.vandenberg.758 - 2013-01-28 12:24

"Out of the mouths of babes", kids are extremely perceptive, The ANC were upset about FNB's advert and it was canned , now another bright kid has had their say, nothing nearer the truth, she should have been fired ages ago !!!

      chris.steytler.1 - 2013-01-28 12:43

Ironically, charlesbronson.bronson fails to spell "whole" correctly. Nothing wrong with the sentiment though.

      denise.ryan.5203 - 2013-01-28 13:22

Spineless FNB cowards! – This very FNB sponsored the ANC during “their struggle” (terrorist campaign) of the 1980’s. So FNB was bullied into submission by the very Frankenstein monster they helped to sustain and nurse into adulthood. How ironic, that this very bank lately embarked on a campaign against their New Masters using children to tell the truth on the utter corruption of the ANC... Just to be bullied into submission, apologize and grovel at feet of the criminal ANC trash. Shows you the hypocrisy and greed of these Mammon-worshippers. They know the truth. They know how corrupt the ANC is and how they misgovern the country, yet they bend over a barrel for the ANC when they are threatened to lose billions of Rands worth of investment. Yellow bellied cowards.

      derek.francois.3 - 2013-01-28 15:01

HA! HA! HA! HA! she owes an apology to the children.....................geez all these investigating agencies to investigate the leak?............might be a leak in her head....................thus the brainless comment............

      jacques.beyers - 2013-01-28 16:38

If you look at vacant stare, as shown above in the picture, it is clearly a brainless picture, one void of any form of human intelligence. One, two, ......potato.....

      hein.huyser - 2013-01-28 20:48

Sad thing is Angie believes the kid lied and that she as a minister is doing a great job. Eish! Who will wake her?

      di.hingley - 2013-01-28 21:50

The child was right!!! She is brainless, in fact, she is braindead!!!!!

      johan.smal.39 - 2013-01-28 22:12

      The child speaks the truth... {reason: Have you seen the picture attached to the article?? (LOL)}

      Notrax123 - 2013-01-28 23:38

If a picture paints a thousand words.... headsup for the picture that News24 selected for the story.

      ignorance.malema - 2013-01-29 11:44

Clever indeed! I bet the child can do a better job than the minister. But first, the child needs to learn that putting an emotive drive behind problems does not necessarily solve any of the problems.

  • djmain1 - 2013-01-28 10:28

  • frans.vanderpoll - 2013-01-28 10:29

Why are you disappointed Angie? Were you trying to get a few bucks out of him?

      fanie.viljoen.73 - 2013-01-28 12:15

After last year's results, textbook scandal and the fact that only 30% of children starting school finishes, how the hell did she still get a disappointment?

      msophiasharp - 2013-01-28 12:23

Her credit rating must have dropped just like her prescribed level of education.... LOL!!!

      Jack - 2013-01-28 21:20

Come on now. Lets be fair. Her IQ compares very well with her cabinet colleagues.

  • KCorsar - 2013-01-28 10:30

So Group management of First Rand is interfering on a personal behest because a MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT is unable to accept criticism from a youth (who may be a victim of her department's failures in 2012). Poor show indeed. PS Minister / Sizwe - PIN numbers on mobile phones are there for a reason, to protect your information!! Just another indication of .............

  • avremel.niselow - 2013-01-28 10:31

And we are disappointed with your ministerial performance.

  • Desilusionada - 2013-01-28 10:36

Dear Minister, Your governance style (and that of your colleagues), is such that you will attract these happenings. Perhaps it should be a lesson in here. Not about poor security, the general panacea excuse for all the woes of the inept, but about why people would leak information. Do not blame the demon media. Blame yourself for doing things that ordinary people cannot, and will not, tolerate any more. Blame yourself that ordinary people have only one wish and that is to live a good life and are prevented from doing so. People do not want to see their hard earned tax money disappear into a bottomless pit of fraud and corruption. The pit that you and your colleagues seemingly are unable to cap. That is why these things happen. That is while we Mr. & Mrs. Average are hungry, dirty, cold, sick, unemployed and desperate. I hope that you really take this to heart. Signed: Concerned and tired Citizen.

      tersia.louw.12 - 2013-01-28 11:56

      Hear, hear, well said.

      kalabafazi - 2013-01-28 13:12

      Ditto

      berendjen.geldenhuys - 2013-01-29 13:58

Pit of fraud that 'they' seemingly unable to cap? Ooo! êh êh, Desilusionada - that they opened up to fill their own knapsacks!

  • foe.no - 2013-01-28 10:37

This is a serious matter? - You have more serious "mishaps" to worry about Minister... Like you job in general...

      pieter.botha.522 - 2013-01-28 11:36

No need to worry about her job. Showerhead will live with her because they are birds of a feather and she leads the cANCer Women's League.

  • womba.wonder - 2013-01-28 10:40

When did First Rand Bank morph into First National Bank?

      frans.delport - 2013-01-28 10:51

FNB is a division of First Rand Limited. What boggles the mind is that First Rand Sponsored the ANC upheaval pre-94, now they are criticizing the very same monster the help created.

      gwza1 - 2013-01-28 10:55

First Rand is the holding group and the JSE listed company who own FNB, OUTsurance, RMB and many more other companies.Basically it was daddy stepping in here and saying sorry on behalf of its kids.

      freddie.miff - 2013-01-28 10:58

FirstRand Ltd is the holding company of FNB and RMB

      werner.bezuidenhout - 2013-01-28 11:33

      Troll alert...

      ignorance.malema - 2013-01-29 12:26

@frans.delport ANC is a better monster than the dehumanizing pre-94 government. I guess (this means I may be wrong) you have no idea what I am talking about. The current ANC horrors are nothing compared to pre-94 when some people would eat bread deliberately 'buttered' with the urine of the supposedly 'superior being.' I am not condoning the unforgivable ANC blunders, but it creams my corn every time some people (mostly whites, honorary whites and forgetful blacks) talk as if SA was a better place before the ANC rule. Guess what, it was not better (mostly for Blacks).

  • talana.malherbe - 2013-01-28 10:41

Dear Minister, your department is a disgrace compared to any country globally. You are insulting our children with your education standards and are not giving them any proper tools for a successful future!

      charlesbronson.bronson - 2013-01-28 10:48

The want the voters still to think Bantu education is the right way to go!

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2013-01-28 10:43

      bob.mcmillen.564 - 2013-01-28 11:31

LOL, yes she does look a little confused to put it mildly.

      croix.mactee - 2013-01-28 15:24

Yip ..... another (brainless) "gap-toothed wonder". Whenever you see the gapped front teeth, you should know there's something seriously loose in the 'screws department'. The worst part of this education saga, is the simple fact that Angelina thinks she is good enough for the job!!

  • veldt66 - 2013-01-28 10:46

    Agreed!

  • rian.dejager.3 - 2013-01-28 10:47

  • sthembiso.jali.50 - 2013-01-28 10:48

the ministers have got a lot of resources to waste. invistigating the useless sms. realy.

  • rian.dejager.3 - 2013-01-28 10:49

News24 might even have to apologize for the picture they placed of her that actually makes her look "brainless". If I had to wait a whole year for my text books... shucks... I also would have called her brainless...

  • amanda.p.barratt - 2013-01-28 10:55

Why is FNB apologising? Or was the advert scripted? They can't apologise for something someone else says and feels is true. We are becoming a country of apologists, who adopt the PC approach. So much for the revolutionaries.

      Deon - 2013-01-28 12:27

They were afraid of losing some money as ANC members keep some money at FNB.

  • jcvos - 2013-01-28 10:56

The truth hurts Angie. U and the rest of your government are all brainless.

  • gwilym.howes - 2013-01-28 11:01

These buffoons will never learn: when you stifle what REAL people are REALLY saying, you loose the value that the excercise may have offered, namely the naked truth. If they don't hear what the people think, they can never fix what is wrong.
