Johannesburg - The late Caroline Motsoaledi, the wife of Rivonia treason trialist Elias Motsoaledi, was a true revolutionary, Minister of Water Affairs and Sanitation Nomvula Mokonyane said on Saturday according to a SABC News report.

Speaking at the special official provincial funeral at Orlando Communal Hall, Soweto, she said Motsoaledi was a strong woman.

"[Women today] are standing strongly and firmly on their shoulders, because they have laid the foundation without any demand for any reward or recognition until the last day," she said.

Minister in the Presidency Susan Shabangu is expected to deliver the eulogy.

On Tuesday, the Presidency said that the national flag would be flown at half-mast at all stations in Gauteng on 3 January.

Motsoaledi, a veteran of the struggle for liberation, whom the presidency said remained steadfast in her convictions and commitment to a free South Africa, died in hospital on 23 December.
