Mpuma cop appears for theft

Johannesburg - An Mpumalanga police officer accused of stealing a cellphone which was to be submitted as evidence was granted R1 000 bail on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Gerald Sedibe said Warrant Officer Ronnie Shisane, 43, appeared in the Acornhoek Magistrate's Court on charges of theft and defeating the ends of justice.

Shisane was arrested after a cellphone that featured in a criminal case went missing.

He would appear in court again on 18 October.
