Mpumalanga sentencing postponed

2013-04-03 20:07

Nelspruit - The sentencing of two men convicted of murdering Ehlanzeni district municipality Chief Whip John Ndlovu was postponed on Wednesday because one of them felt ill.

A Sapa correspondent reported that Bongani Mkasi, 30, and Mundi Khoza, 26, were found guilty of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition in January this year.

Judge Richard Mabuse was scheduled to sentence the two in the Nelspruit Circuit of the North Gauteng High Court on Wednesday. He postponed the matter to Thursday because Khoza complained he was not feeling well.

"We are postponing the case to tomorrow for one of the accused to be sent to hospital, and we hope doctors will tell if he is ready to stand tomorrow.

"If he is not ready tomorrow we are going to postpone the sentencing to another date," Mabuse said.

Ndlovu was killed on 5 January 2011. He was shot repeatedly near his home in Edinburgh village, Bushbuckridge, and then driven a short distance in the boot of his car.

His killers left his body on the side of the road.
