Pietermaritzburg - A teacher who allegedly murdered his former lover and her son, believing she infected him with HIV/Aids, could not be found in prison ahead of court proceedings, the KwaZulu-Natal High Court heard on Monday.

The investigating officer had tried to find the accused, Nolanso Khwela, in the Pietermaritzburg New Prison before court started.

The 29-year-old teacher had not been found by the time proceedings began, a Sapa correspondent reported.

The matter was postponed to Tuesday.

Khwela allegedly murdered fellow teacher Bonakele Millicent Sibiya and her son Mfanafuthi Sibiya, 7, near Durban on 28 March this year. She is believed to have ended their relationship.

Khwela, a teacher at Cato Ridge, found out that Sibiya, a teacher at Bergville, and her son were going to Durban for the holidays.

He found them near Durban, gave them a lift and allegedly choked them, and burnt their bodies.

Their incinerated bodies were found the next day.
