Murder-accused metro chief not promoted

2012-12-10 09:07

Johannesburg - A recommendation that murder-accused Ekurhuleni metro chief Hlula Msimang be appointed executive director of public safety, has been withdrawn, according to a report on Monday.

The Star newspaper reported that he had been recommended by the City of Johannesburg mayoral committee to start in the new position on 1 December.

However, mayoral spokesperson Fred Mokoko said the recommendation was withdrawn on the day he appeared in court on a murder charge.

The charge relates to a shooting at Msimang's home in Bryanston on 11 February.

Msimang would have been responsible for joint operations between the Johannesburg metro police department and emergency services, if he had taken up the position.

Oh wow such good news. How about suspending him without pay until the case has been heard and tried??

Alicia, you know things work differently for these parasites....

Please research on his story elsewhere...this poor guy shot and killed an intruder in his home. I would have done the same to protect myself and my family. If you appear in my home at night through forcing yourself in and I don't know you or haven't invited you in, I will shoot and ask questions later. This is South Africa. Some particular race are being hypocritical here. In other stories on this website, you read people raging against crime and swearing to shoot intruders at sight...but because it's a wrong colour metro manager, he is now being accused of guilt before the trial even begins.

i hate these corrupt people who are destroying this beautiful land. I wish for a revolution and all these criminals in power can be sentenced to death for making a country suffer whilst they self enrich themselves

      denis.gomo - 2012-12-10 13:43

What corruption are you raving about? The poor man shot an intruder who God knows what he wanted to do in his house or to him and his family. I would have done the same. If you appear in my home at night through forcing yourself in and I don't know you or haven't invited you in, I will shoot and ask questions later. This is South Africa.

It is normal procedure to ignore a person for promotion while there is case pending, especially a muder case. Those who made accusation about corruption without any evidence good luck. Lets build the country to prosperity and fight division.

Interesting moral thinking. Before he appeared in court he was slated to be Executive Director of Public Safety. Presumably he was subjected to appropriate phsychometric tests and peer review screening before he was slated for this very important and visible position. Now, because he has appeared in court accused of murder he is no longer a candidate. What does this say about the person himself? What does it say about the slating process? What it does say very clearly is that the anc short list of credible, upstanding leaders is incredible short!

  • avanwyk2 - 2012-12-10 10:28

I was not promoted because I was born as a white male.

  • Eterni80 - 2012-12-10 10:28

wow - you think ?? this dude will get a very high profile job within the cANCer.

why are people jumping the gun unless they know the details of the murder, killing a bugler in your house is still murder, killing a would be hijacker is still murder i suggest we wait until we get the details of the circumstances that led 2 this only then we can make an informed comments!!!!

  • annie.israel.50 - 2012-12-10 16:35

Surprised he was not promoted (corruption is so rife) and that this individual is still in the employ of the police force is an absolute disgrace - he should be fired immediately
