Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 33-year-old woman in Koster, in the North West, police said on Sunday.

"Police in Koster arrested a 36-year-old suspect for allegedly raping a 33-year-old victim on Friday at about 02:30," Captain Pelonomi Makau said in a statement.

"It is alleged that the victim was on her way home from a tavern when she noticed that the suspect was following her at Bodigelo section near Koster."

The man then allegedly struck the woman's head with a stone and forced her to a nearby stadium where he raped her.

He then took the woman to his home where he raped her again. The woman came forward to the police after the incident and the man was subsequently arrested.

He is due to appear in the Koster Magistrate's Court on Monday.
