NPA attaches assets of ANC MP

2012-10-26 21:04

Johannesburg - The NPA on Friday obtained an order to attached assets worth about R24m belonging to a National Assembly portfolio committee chair.

The Asset Forfeiture Unit obtained the order in the Northern Cape High Court against ANC MP Yolanda Botha, the National Prosecuting Authority said in a statement.

Botha chairs the social development portfolio committee.

The unit successfully argued that Botha disregarded tender procedures while she was head of social development in the Northern Cape, and signed lease agreements that benefited a company called Trifecta Investment Holdings.

"In return, Trifecta made renovations to her house. The value of the renovations is estimated at R1.2m," the NPA said.

The lease agreements were costing the government about R3m a month, with some coming to an end only in 2017.

Botha allegedly approved decisions that went against the bid adjudication committee's recommendations.

She changed the duration of some lease agreements to 10 years from five, and overruled the departmental legal adviser's judgment that the leases be cancelled.

The leases are for buildings rented by the North Cape department of social development in Springbok, Kuruman, Douglas and Kimberley.

The attachment order was granted against Botha's house in Kimberley and her 10 percent shareholding in Trifecta.

The shares had been transferred from the company to a trust controlled by Botha's relatives.

The NPA said Botha had told Parliament's joint committee on ethics and members' interests that she only received a R500 000 loan from the company.

The committee found in August 2011 that there was an improper and corrupt relationship between Botha and Trifecta.

Begs the question, are there any law abiding ANC members at all? How is it that so very many of these ANC politicians are multimillionaires in a relatively short space of time? Politicians from all over the world don't become millionaires during their time in government, they either inherit, earn the fortune before entering politics or become millionaires once they leave office. It seems to be an African thing where people enter politics purely to become millionaires through corruption. At the moment, the ANC are definitely heading the corruption league table in Africa, newcomers certainly, but damn have they learnt fast!

TICKS are parasites that gorge themselves until they fall off the host body and get squashed, spraying countless eggs/larvae out to surreptitiously seek out a new victim. Best method to control these pests is to burn them and the entire surrounding area! even in the N/Cape.

Look at the double chin- that's from gouging on food funded from the thefts with a pen; the preferred modus operandi of the ANC political elite.

Under normal circumstances I would ask why a person found guilty of corruption would still be a MP, but her being a member of the anc explains it all - she has all the attributes of a good comrade!

  • rocky.bell.5 - 2012-10-27 06:21

WELL DONE DA. "The DA laid corruption charges against Ms Botha on 18 November 2011, after the Parliamentary Ethics Committee backtracked on a decision to impose the strongest possible sanctions against her. The ANC-dominated Ethics Committee watered down an original decision on the matter, despite damning findings indicating that Ms Botha failed to declare her business interests and wilfully misled parliament concerning kickbacks that she received from a business venture. The Committee allowed her to get away with a small fine and a reprimand". Goodbye Sissie !!!!

      beverly.young3 - 2012-10-27 10:46

  • glen.e.huysamer - 2012-10-27 08:06

I understand the attachment of this thieving ANC crooks assets and what not's, what I really fail to understand is why this fat ANC thieving crook has not been arrested, including the owners and CEO's of Trifecta, and why Trifecta itself has also not had all it's assets attached as well, it took two groups to tango in this thieving dance of corruption.......the company and all it's properties should be taken by the NPA as well..... Why should the tax payer be paying the company any rent for leases, a great opportunity to set future president......(farking nail the crooks) The public want's their stolen farking tax payers money back from all these fat cANCer rats and this includes those that helped in turning government 'frot'

Oh yes, I am perfectly sure you are 100% correct. The terribe part, is that is you have not WORKED for your money, you have little appreciation of the actual values attached. A bit like giving a child too much. No values are set, no concept of how much R1 is, let alone R24 million, its all numbers to them.........f**k!!!
