NPA probe into Selebi case - report

2014-07-31 07:14

Johannesburg - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is conducting an internal probe into the prosecution of convicted former national police commissioner Jackie Selebi, The New Age reported on Thursday.

According to the report, a misconduct complaint was laid by Selebi's family and legal team that the prosecution did not reveal all the evidence in its possession during the former police commissioner's trial.

Suspended integrity management unit head Prince Mokotedi, who was expected to resign from the NPA on Friday, confirmed to the newspaper that the complaint was being investigated.

"I know that senior prosecutor Shawn Abrahams has been appointed to look into the matter," he said.

"He has collected the Selebi docket from the Hawks and is studying the contents."

Selebi's lawyer Wynanda Coetzee said on Wednesday they had approached the NPA regarding the way the case was handled.

Selebi was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment on August 3, 2010 for taking bribes from convicted drug dealer Glenn Agliotti.

He collapsed at his house in December 2011 after his final appeal failed.

Selebi was released on medical parole in 2012 after he was diagnosed with kidney failure, hypertension and diabetes.

I hope if they go to court...and found guilty again that this dying man gets to serve the rest of his sentence.....the cheek and arrogance of this clown is too much

Mmmm Coetzee good money in it for you

  • shaun.terbruggen - 2014-07-31 07:56

Why would he and his family be concerned that not all the evidence was submitted when what was submitted was enough to send him to jail? Could it be that other high ranking 'honourable' members were privy and part of his shenanigans? Number one?

  • Michael Kleber - 2014-07-31 07:57

This dishonest crooked excuse for a human being should be in jail

South Africa is a joke. If you are connected to the ANC you are bulletproof. The president is as guilty as hell of many crimes but spends 245 million Rand on his own home. Don't waste tax payers money prosecuting these mongrels. They don't pay any tax but, my word, are they good at stealing it. ANC happy about municipal audits. Most of them are a shambles but because the odd one is stealing less than the rest, this is fine. A country of looters and no leaders.

  • Henk Venter - 2014-07-31 08:29

Who is paying this criminal's legalfees this time around? Didnt he already spend enough of the taxpayers money? And why isnt his criminal record reported on the database of the Criminal Record Centrum?

  • Brolloks En Bittergal - 2014-07-31 08:37

I just hope the finalise the investigation before he dies. This poor man is a walking corpse - for two years already. Selebi and Shaik are the living proof that corpses can walk.... Yes, I know that some people see this as weird dooms day type allegation but,it is a medical fact, look at their medical parole records.

Mokotedi was one of the principal ANC team players in the NPA. There must also be an enquiry into Adv Nomgcobo Jiba,Adv Lawrence Mrwebi and Adv Moipone Noko,PDPP in Kwazulu Natal. They are the other ANC team players in the NPA. Adv Jiba and Mrwebi were the ones who shielded Mdluli from prosecution against fraud charges, for defrauding the SAPS secret account out of millions of rands. Jiba also had Adv Gerrie Nel arrested to thwart him with going ahead with the arrest of Jackie Selebi. She also owes Number One big time, because Number One expunged the criminal record of her husband Booker Nhantsi, and he was appointed to a government job after that. Adv Noko and Mrwebi also decided not to go ahead with charges against Peggy Nkonyeni and Mike Mbuyakhulu,MEC members of the ANC in Kwazulu Natal,in the Gaston Savoi "Amigos" case in KZN,although the previous acting PDPP in KZN,Adv Mlotschwa, felt there was a case to be answered by Nkonyeni and Mbhuyakhulu. In fact Mlotschwa was removed, and replaced with Noko, simply because of this case. Noko also withdrew the case against Thoshan Panday, and colonel Navin Madhoe, from the SAPS in KZN,who tried to bribe Genl Johan Booysen with R2 Million.Thoshan Panday is a highly connected individual and a business partner of Edward Zuma, son of Number One. Noko also dropped the case against tenderpreneur Shawn Mpisane.

Yes - the NPA is such a compromised organisation, nobody trusts anything that comes out of there anymore. JZ783 has truly raped the entire justice system so that it's totally dysfunctional. It will take years to fix what he has messed up. Phansi cANCer, phansi!!!

  • Jacqui Daane Van Rensburg - 2014-07-31 09:14

It must be nice if you can just run to the courts and never pay your legal bills. No such luck for the rest of us.

  • DerekMain - 2014-07-31 10:06

They should rather be investigating how he got medical parole. Phansi cANCer, phansi!!!

      DerekMain - 2014-07-31 10:08

He's guilty - finish and klaar! Phansi cANCer, phansi!!!
