IT appears that the Hollywood fever of rebooting films has made its way to the gaming industry.

Electronic Arts (EA) this week revealed that they will be rebooting the iconic driving franchises Need for Speed

There had been much speculation that the racing game would be a sequel to the much-loved Need for Speed: Underground 2.

Need for Speed is being developed by the Swedish-based Ghost Games, who most notably produced Need for Speed: Rivals.

Executive producer at Ghost Games Marcus Nilsson said: “Pulling on our 20 years of history and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’re always wanted to.

“We’re listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”

EA said that the game will use what it considers the core pillars of the series: “deep customisation, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative”.

Need for Speed is set for release in the second half of this year and will be available for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
