Johannesburg - The Nelson Mandela bridge in Johannesburg has been closed to traffic on Wednesday in preparation for the Run Jozi night race, metro police said.

The race would start on the bridge at 19:00 on Wednesday night and end at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown at 23:00, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Motorists were requested to look out for runners. Traffic lanes around the city would be cordoned off for them, said Minnaar.

About 10 000 runners were expected to participate.
