Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League's 35 additional members for its national executive committee were announced on Sunday.

The elected members joined the top five leaders on the stage.

The 35 members were nominated unopposed on Saturday evening.

It was clear on Saturday that there was a set list of who the ANCYL wanted on its executive. Delegates voted according to a list they were given, seen by News24.

When a person was nominated from the floor some delegates consulted their lists before deciding whether to second the nomination.

A nominee needed 701 votes (25% of delegates) to qualify to be nominated.

When a name was called that was not on the list, delegates from some provinces said "shhh", indicating to others that they should not vote.

The nomination of the top five positions - president, deputy president, secretary general, deputy secretary general, and treasurer general - was a similar process.

Those nominated from the floor did not reach the threshold and did not qualify to stand.

This caused some friction as those who wanted former ANCYL deputy president Ronald Lamola nominated called for a recount of votes. The request was denied.
