Johannesburg - Gugu Duda has been appointed as the new chief financial officer of the SABC, Communications Minister Dina Pule announced on Wednesday.

"Ms Duda has the relevant qualifications, skills, capabilities and experience required for the position," the communications ministry said in a statement.

She would take up the five-year position on March 1.

Duda, a chartered accountant, was previously the chief financial officer for internet and telephone banking at First National Bank.

She left to join Wipcapital as executive investment manager before departing for AngloGold Ashanti to take up the position of vice president for strategy and risk integration for continental Africa.

The ministry said Pule was satisfied with the integrity of the selection and evaluation process.

"Ms Duda's appointment re-affirms Minister Pule's commitment, after due process and consideration, to quickly filling the top executive positions at the SABC," it said.

Ill'e give her 2 months before the first corruption scandal hits.

capable people usually have a short life span within corrupted organisations. Without the political will to support her in the clean up work, she is on a hiding to nothing. Good luck

Dear Gugu Duda, Welcome to a Malfunctioning, Corrupt and Underperforming SABC. In order for you to succeed in this position, I suggest that you begin by investigating the recent abuses of Taxpayer's and Licences Monies. Below are some key pointers that I believe YOU MUST ADDRESS ASAP. 1. Investigate the R20m purchase process of those Mercs in the basement. 2. Go down in the basement and COUNT those vehicles, I believe about 86? 3. Ask Ben Ngubane to explain how leases to these vehicles were authorized? And what INSURANCE COVER do they have? Follow up on the Merc Dealership or MBSA and the Insurance Company = Remember the accident at Nelspruit was in an UNINSURED Vaehicle. 4. Why Ben Ngubane? Simple = 'cause all this happened UNDER HIS WATCH. 5. Ask Ben Ngubane to also explain WHY HE IS UNAWARE OF THE PRIVATE TRANSPORT OPERATORS CHARGES= R2000 per day whilst waiting for him? 6. Please address the REMUNERATION & SEVERANCE PACKAGESn of all SABC Executives going back 10 Years. Include the R1,7m odd package of the WIFE of the SACP Head / ANC Minister BLADE NDZIMANE. 7. Investigate the R11m odd Severence package of DALI MPOFU, who also was sacked by the Bungling SABC ANC Puppet Board = Fiasco of Past Years. 8. Do an Indepth forensic research of certain dubious Consultants who have been skimming huge fees without the necessary skills or expertise. 9. Show us defenseless Licence and Taxpaying public that YOU WILL ADDRESS all past wastage, by CRIMINALLY CHARGING those CULPRITS. Bye

Good points Jay, but I think we both know that there will be no investigation, and in the off chance that there is one, it will be covered up or take so long the public will forget about it.

This is absurd how come now qualifications is highlited where as not so long ago it was just the potential ability to do the work ? confused ? me too

  • Whitty - 2012-02-15 18:34

This is a turn in the right direction, I hope other departments will follow suite to appoint the best.

  • Motho - 2012-02-18 21:10

Some of the comments here are absurd and filled with jeasouly. The woman is a qualified chartered accountant with finance and investment experience so why prosecute her for her achievements? Can the critics tell us about their credentials?

  • ntulit - 2012-03-07 13:41

I personally know Gugu, she is very experienced, learned and capable, this is another indication that we do not have confidence in our women, I agree with Motho, can the critics please share their credentials ? Thembeka Ntuli
