New deputy public protector sought

2012-10-24 13:26

Cape Town - Parliament's justice and constitutional development portfolio committee has called for nominations for a new deputy public protector.

The term of office of current Deputy Public Protector Mamiki Shai ends on November 30, the committee said in a statement on Wednesday.

The nominee should be a South African citizen.

The candidate should be admitted as an advocate or attorney and have practised as such for at least 10 years, or lectured in law at a university for at least 10 years.

The nominee should also have specialised knowledge of or experience in the administration of justice, public administration, or public finance, have been a member of Parliament for at least 10 years, or acquired any combination of experience mentioned above for at least 10 years.

The successful nominee would be appointed deputy public protector for a period determined by the president, but not exceeding seven years.

The remuneration and other terms and conditions of employment would from time to time be determined by the National Assembly.

The deputy public protector would have such powers as might be delegated by the public protector.

Whenever the public protector was unable to perform the functions of her/his office or while the appointment of a person to the office of public protector was pending, the deputy would perform such functions, the committee said.

The closing date for nominations is November 9 2012 at 17:00.

Where is the forward planning for a replacement? Shai is going out under a cloud of accusations.

      fussed.anderson - 2012-10-24 13:48

Thuli Madonsela must appoint the person. No gov appointee. The anc want someone inside to corrupt the system

      john.kirkwood.9619 - 2012-10-24 14:47

fussed was just thinking the same thing,

      godfrey.welman - 2012-10-24 14:55

Sounds tailor made for Adv Vusi Pikoli, what a combination with Madonsela.Oh well, I suppose pigs will fly before that happen.

I can just imagine the candidates on the ANC's short list: how about Tony Yengeni? Or Shabir Shaik - he's healthy enough. Or maybe Bheki Cele? Gerald Majola? Loads of people who would be happy to have this job.

With all the shenanigans going on perhaps a whole Battalion should be employed.

  • george.pistorius - 2012-10-24 13:34

Just because Thuli found out about the cANCers corruption???

  • kenpeg.dawson - 2012-10-24 13:38

I have been on the run from the law for 10 years. Should count as experience?

      John.Yossarian22 - 2012-10-24 14:07

About as long as Jacob 783...

  • atholl.canterbury - 2012-10-24 13:40

have been a member of Parliament for at least 10 years ?? ... a law professor-advocate-politician ?? IOW ... a person who makes a living out of lies..

  • Andrea - 2012-10-24 13:42

Oh Shai, you must be really disappointed that your contract is not renewed, and I bet you are crying out "But WHY?" right now.

  • andrez.kolesky - 2012-10-24 13:45

I guess she tried to hold on. With this report against Thuli. Talking about sour grapes:

  • neo.mokami - 2012-10-24 13:53

No wonder Mamiki Shai has been so bitter lately, she's about to hop off the gravy train at the next stop.

      siphom.mnguni - 2012-10-24 13:59

      @neo.mokami:) I am answered too!

      john.kirkwood.9619 - 2012-10-24 16:26

sure she will et another position to abuse tax payers.

      nosiphom.mazibuko - 2012-10-24 16:45

And she staretd to piss whilst inside the house hoping to get Thuli fired and herself appointed.

  • Erna - 2012-10-24 13:54

Glad its not Thuli looking for another job!!

  • jola.jose.7 - 2012-10-24 13:54

Please don't elect any corrupt anc member there even if she or he is not corrupt now he/she will be

  • Sipho Mbatha - 2012-10-24 13:59

@nkosi.khumalo, was she not suppose to voice her complain against you beloved Thuli, oh shame to you.

      ant.duke - 2012-10-24 14:11

'Beloved' Thuli fights disgusting behaviour by discredited and corrupt power-mongers Sipho. So if she isn't in your good books, she's in your bad books. Why would that be?

  • John.Yossarian22 - 2012-10-24 14:05

Watch this space for a JZ "cadre" deployment. Simelane is freshly out of a job? Sadly, I wouldn't put it past them. Hopefully Madonsela has some sort of say in the appointment.

  • beverly.young3 - 2012-10-24 14:12

      Onke Mdingi - 2012-10-24 15:05

It's just a matter of 'scratch my bach and I'll scrach yours'. It hapened the same way to Scorpions.

  • Vince.York - 2012-10-24 14:15

OMINOUS under the scarlet and blackened thunderclouds of this zuma-anc-pf dynasty! The zuma cabal has been as a hive of wild murderous African bees, swarming ever closer to the honeypot, killing and maiming along the way as it sends out scouts and deploys cloned fighters by the myriad and driving all normal civilized progress as far away before it's onslaught as possible! Now that it has secured the honeypot (tax coffers) the swarm will never let it go until it is completely depleted, or the main attractor/draw card queen is killed, and then only to hang about under some rocks or in some forest disguising itself until another new abomination is bred and nursed to cause another streak of terror and damage across our land. Best the impeachment happens right away and it is removed and the threat to SA Democracy removed once and for all.

  • vincent.mafooa - 2012-10-24 14:47

And please we don't want an ANC mind polutated, corrupt candidate, with fake qualifications nogal, the candidate should just be not a member of ANC, because they will manipulate the whole system and have the current Public Protector toppled to put the deputy there(ANC)so that they can hide their evil schemings and deeds well. ANC is notorious for manipulation, when they see that someone or something will hinder them on doing their ill deeds, they make sure that they get rid of the person and put one of theirs in place so they can control and manipulate the system in any way they wish. If i find that the selected candidate is an ANC puppet, i'll hang myself with noodle strings I swear :)

  • Tebz001 - 2012-10-24 15:36

Since when does ANC ask for qualifiction(for the job, not corruption) and not connections?

  • nosiphom.mazibuko - 2012-10-24 16:43

You cannot have someone inside the house pissing in - Shai must go, sit outside the Public Protector and piss in that is fine!
