Newborn baby dumped in Soweto veld

2012-06-02 14:34

Johannesburg - A 1-day-old baby girl was found lying in a veld in Dobsonville in Soweto on Saturday, Gauteng police said.

"Fortunately the child was found alive," Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

He said officers received a call early in the morning and found the child there. Officers took her to a nearby hospital.

Makhubela said this was a big concern as it happened during Child Protection Week.

"We have made no arrests and are appealing to community members who might know of someone who was pregnant and now has no baby to go to the police station in Dobsonville."

I could say find that lady and throw her in jail but that wouldn't help because zuma will probably find a new wife next year and as part of celebration prisoners will be kicked out of jail for free Find her and execute her in the most painful way possible

  • Charnelle - 2012-06-02 16:22

Stricter penalties for Child Neglegence! Im sorry, you do not abondon your child, no matter what the circumstances. This is what seperates human beings from animals!

Can't keep there legs close and the zips up, always children that get raped or dumped.

  • Pixie86 - 2012-06-02 16:36

we're all so judgemental. Who knows what pushed this mother to do this? Was she depressed? Abused? Traumatised through rape? Was it the mother? Could the dad have snatched the baby in anger and dumped her in a field? Shouldn't we be glad the baby is alive.

Desperate situation we men put these ladies into end up taking this mad choices. What does this mean, it mean starting with myself I will cherish and care for my partner and my child come rain or what. I call upon men to please show love tour partners they end up disgracefully through newborn babies because because their men are irresponsible. But again I call upon our sisters please hand over those unwanted babies to social workers.

      jonivdw - 2012-06-03 01:08

Please don't dump there are LOVING homes! We are blessed with an adopted son and will be adopting again! All babies are a blessing! uBUNTU

I like your comment nkosinathi, thank you! But our sisters must also take responsibility for their actions, it is time to seriously take a look at our morals and become responsible citizens of this country. Give the baby up for adoption if you cannot look after it but please...have responsible sex!!!

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-06-03 10:36

Why don't we accept where a major problem is, and that the RC Church., is much to blame for these sad stories. They are the the ones who tell their followers, not to use a condom, or to go on the pill, or to have an injection against pregnancy. THEY are the CRIMINALS. The pope should be arrested and charged for crimes against humanity !!!!!

Cut the nonsense out and focus on the facts. This has to do with plain common sense. Birth control measures are freely available, and if this was a rape case, then abortions are available. Having sex without acknowledging the consequences is irresponsible. Dumping a live baby in a field or anywhere and leaving the child to die is akin to murder and therefore a punishable crime.

      debbie.t.campbell - 2012-06-03 09:05

i agree Karen, why make this another flippen race issue? It is about education, awerness, responsibility and common sense. The mother must be found and charged with attempted murder. I hope that poor baby finds a good home

is it a hobby now to dump children in Soweto?this is disgusting!

      Harold - 2012-06-03 12:40

The way to solve this problem is to provide a place where these bodies can be dumped and incinerated. As I am sure the people who are doing this do not have any religious conscious or normal society morals. So it is unlikely they will object. This dumping of babies can be a serious health threat to the people of Soweto.

  • Mike Purchase - 2012-06-03 09:28

Im getting a clearer picture why these okes are the way they are.

  • Sam - 2012-06-03 11:01

i cannot believe that a person can actually do this

  • Harold - 2012-06-03 11:54

Is this a modern day social problem. or a age old cultural practice. Should not the traditional leaders be sending a message to people that modern society does not do this? or should there be a law allowing woman to dispose of unwanted pregnancies and newly born babies without prosecution? Something needs to be done to either legalize or outlaw this barbaric and savage practice. Mothers and farther what have you done to the children.

  • Garth - 2012-06-03 12:36

This country needs to catch a serious wake-up! Abortions should be encouraged as should sterilization! The number of people who live in poverty is shocking, let them stop breeding so as to allow fewer children more opportunities!!

      Harold - 2012-06-03 13:01

yes I agree with you Garth I am sometimes shocked to see the urgency with which people go about starting programmes to castrate dogs. But yet go to Soweto and have a look around for a proper well run programme to do the same to sterilize human being. I cant understand the resistance after all it seems to just be the sexual act that these people want. I sometimes get the feeling that what we are looking at in these townships is a voter breeding programme thats why there is no sterilization amoungst men Who I am convinced see the world through the eye of their penis and have no need to make children. When will national government do something positive.

      Khahliso Molefe - 2012-06-03 16:36

i totally agree with u Garth!

      Ryno - 2012-06-04 08:45

i am sure they will not even consider sterilization / abortion - that will mean less vots 18 years later!!

  • Ryno - 2012-06-04 08:44

    sick sick sick sick sick...

  • Gerrit Alberts - 2014-05-29 02:10

Please find this animal...I cant even think of the fear that baby would've gone through. The baby did not asked to be there. If she cant keep her legs closed and be responsible someone needs to cut her private parts in bloody pieces so that she wont be able to have any children in future. I cant stand this. Poor child
