News24 on that tweet

2015-02-04 14:02

Cape Town –  Tweeting in your personal capacity is one thing, from a corporate account, well, that’s a whole new social media beast.

News24 was hit by that proverbial Twitter storm on Wednesday morning, after a tweet featuring some rather choice words was sent out from the wrong account. And in the two minutes it was up, we learned that hell hath no fury like a tweet sent out in error. Least of all a corporate one... It’s a lesson we should know by now, but every now and then, it raises its very ugly (and loud... yes, said tweet was in caps) head in spectacular fashion.

The tweet was sent out by accident by a News24 staffer, who had multiple accounts open on Tweetdeck. Often one has multiple windows open while working, and mistakes happen.

As soon as we realised what had happened we removed it and tweeted an apology.

We regret and apologise for any offence caused by the tweet. We do view this in a serious light and will be looking into how best to try and stop it from happening again.
