Johannesburg - A Nigerian man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly dealing in drugs at Apex Flats in Springs, Gauteng police said.

Captain Johannes Ramphora said police acted on a tip-off when they found the man with ecstasy, cat and dagga in the flat. The drugs were estimated to have a street value of R20 000.

Ramphora said police received numerous complaints from people whose cellphones, cars and other items were used as collateral in this man's drug business.

"They told us they used to buy drugs on credit and he took their cellphones and cars for surety."

Those who laid charges against the man were not arrested for using drugs because they were not found in their possession.

"We didn't find anything on them, so we don't have a case against them," Ramphora said.

Some recovered their goods when the man was arrested, he said.

He will appear in the Springs Magistrate's Court on Friday facing a charge of dealing in drugs.
