Johannesburg - Police have arrested four men in connection with the murder of the mother of Nkandlagate contractor Thandeka Nene in a brutal house robbery at Nagina near Marianhill outside Durban last night.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane told City Press two of the men aged between 34 and 20 had been charged for allegedly stabbing Mrs Nonhlanhla Nene 21 times.

The other two were still being questioned in connection with the killing after being arrested by police at Umzinto on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast this morning.

He said Nene was killed at the family home before the four fled in her car, which was recovered when they were arrested.

Nene, who was arrested recently for allegedly falsifying the qualifications of her construction company, Bonelena, in order to secure tenders to build a school and other government contracts, was not immediately contactable.

She was named by the Special Investigating Unit and the Public Protector as having scored more than R98m by inflating costs of the security upgrade to President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla home.
