No law on the roads

2015-05-23 11:08

IT’S no surprise what happened in Pietermaritz Street this week. Our transport system is in the hands of citizens who are not law abiding and unfortunately it will not change.

I commute in that area every day and every day it’s chaos. Most taxi drivers don’t obey the traffic lights and officers — they are a law unto themselves and it is the city that allows them to get away with it. How many more people, and I include passengers, traffic officers and pedestrians, have to die or get hurt before our city and country revolutionise the way the transport system in our country is run?

Most taxi drivers have no regard for the road and the rules that apply to it. I fear for traffic officers everyday, not to mention the passengers who are held hostage by a transport system that they have no choice but to use.

This situation will not change until we decide as a collective body to change it.
