Johannesburg - There is no update regarding the investigation into the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

"No further update," Brigadier Neville Malila said.

On Saturday, Malila said three people were being questioned in connection with Meyiwa's murder.

"Investigators are in the process of interrogating the three suspects who will be placed on an ID parade later. If any evidence is found to link them to the crime, they will be charged," Malila said at the time.

Vosloorus resident, Zenokuhle Mbatha, 25, appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Friday in connection with the crime. Police said he was pointed out in an identity parade.

The National Prosecuting Authority said Mbatha was expected to apply for legal aid at his next appearance on 11 November.

13 questioned

So far 13 people had been questioned in connection with the killing of the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates keeper.

Divisional commissioner of detective services Lieutenant General Vinesh Moonoo said police remained pleased with the progress they were making and the support from the public.

"We are not able to give minute details about all developments in the investigation and will give an update during a media briefing on Monday."

Meyiwa was shot dead last Sunday evening in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni while visiting his girlfriend, singer and actress Kelly Khumalo. Two men allegedly entered the house demanding cellphones, shot him and fled.

Meyiwa was buried at the Heroes Acre cemetery in Chesterville, Durban , on Saturday.
