WATCH: Alleged racial segregation at Curro school caught on camera

2015-06-18 08:50

Curro Roodeplaat Private School is under the spotlight again - this time after what appears to be racially segregated classes were caught on camera.WATCH

Johannesburg - At least two black mothers say there is no racism at Curro private school in Roodeplaat, Netwerk24 reported on Friday.

One of them had come forward in February with the initial segregation allegations against the school. She wanted to remain anonymous to protect her children.

She is now a member of the parents’ communication forum, established after the first scandal.

The mother said the latest video to go viral is the result of a feud between an unhappy mother and the school.

“Believe me, I would have been the first one to make a noise if the video was racist. It isn’t. What it shows, is children speaking different languages being separated on the bus.”

Another black mother, who also wanted to remain anonymous, backed up the first parent.

This followed a video depicting school pupils being led off buses, apparently according to race, while on a field trip. White pupils waited near the front of a car, while groups of other pupils, who appear to be black, were led off-screen in separate groups.

The group in front of the car were then led off-screen in a different direction.
In February, the school first made headlines after about 30 parents wrote a petition to the principal over classes that appeared to be separated along racial lines.

Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng education MEC, has ordered an investigation after allegations that there was “pressure from some white parents” to segregate at the school.

Panyaza Lesufi visited the school on Thursday and declared its actions "racist" and "disgusting", adding it had affected his emotions.
