No sex for matric markers

2012-12-02 14:20

Johannesburg - Matric markers have been told they may not have sex or wild parties at marking venues, it was reported on Sunday.

A code of conduct stipulated that there be "no illicit liaisons in the hostels or on the grounds of the marking centre," the Sunday Times reported.

A manager at a marking centre told the newspaper he was adopting a zero tolerance approach to alcohol and sex.

"If anyone is found to be visiting the ladies' hostel or being drunk on the premises I will kick him out immediately. We make markers aware in advance of what is expected of them," he said.

A Limpopo code of conduct - similar to that in other provinces - reportedly provided that each marker be told "in which bed he or she will sleep".

The Sunday Times reported that more than 30 000 markers had begun marking the exam papers of 647 687 matrics at 118 marking venues.

Welcome to rest of RSA! We too are not permitted to drink or have sex on work premises or during working hours! Surprised you guys have managed both ever and for so long without applying Code of Conduct in the work place!

      rodney.bevan.58 - 2012-12-02 14:42

Normal folk would not have had to have this basic concept explained to them. Eish.

      sani.ghana.3 - 2012-12-02 15:49

I am ashamed of these markers, now he speaks to them like a parent and these marker must also be adult people. Our youths can not wait longer for good education

      BulletProof. - 2012-12-02 16:58

Hi, dady can I have sex today? Idiots. There is other ways and proper methodology to make people and youth responsible, go and learn a bit phsicology before you become a proper teacher.

      nick.collis.16 - 2012-12-02 21:31

I wouldn't say it was the norm to have sex at the office or at a company conference but it does certainly happen and not just in Africa. This also flouts a companys code of conduct.

      preshen.govender.12382 - 2012-12-03 08:18

This explains why markers always fail students

      susan.paul.330 - 2012-12-03 08:26

It's no wonder that rape has become the order of the day...

      squeegee.pilot - 2012-12-02 15:10

  • Smoke.ZN - 2012-12-02 14:30

w..t..f.. I cannot believe they have to even instate a code of conduct that covers this!!!

  • christoffvstaden - 2012-12-02 14:43

Can only laugh... That adults have to be told how to conduct themselves... Something seriously wrong when an adult doesn't know how to behave properly.

      sani.ghana.3 - 2012-12-02 15:52

  • khanyisani.ndlovu - 2012-12-02 15:32

That is good they must concentrate on marking before they make errors good code of conduct I agree

      doug.evans.56863 - 2012-12-03 08:35

Is it really so hard to behave that they have to state it in the "rules " ... ridiculous. If you have a job to do ... then do it.

  • mmoledis - 2012-12-02 15:37

Well done education department for that, I think that should also be spread to schools around the country too where we will make school environment a learning place and not sex and maternity place.

  • zahierm - 2012-12-02 15:44

The manager is an attention seeking twit...there's hardly a story here. They strut around the venues trying to look important...but are usually ignored by all and sundry.

  • toni.swart.7 - 2012-12-02 15:54

If they have to be told in which bed theh have to sleep, I would e worriex whether they capable of marking correctly!!!

  • robert.warriner - 2012-12-02 16:55

As a teacher I am appalled that a code of conduct like this even has to exist. Oh sigh....

  • marinda.naude.39 - 2012-12-02 17:07

Hard to imagine the lack of self respect and pure animal instincts of having an uncontrollable urge to have wild sex with strangers right now!!! With or without their consent. You don't have to explain it. Like a dog in heat. Unrefined.

  • thabo.manganye - 2012-12-02 17:18

Why not adopt the same rule with the students , no sex till u finish school(grd 12)

  • wiseman.phakathi.5 - 2012-12-02 17:59

    lol seriously

  • anele.mveku - 2012-12-02 18:17

  • terrylee.heuer - 2012-12-02 18:55

I'm flabbergasted!!! LOL makes one wonder if these markers are capable of marking matric exams if they have to told that!!!

  • Strikeback - 2012-12-02 19:01

Who is marking these papers? Politicians? You should not inhale while picking your nose. Your fingers might get stuck! How stupid are these people?

  • raymond.krisman - 2012-12-02 19:07

A bit off topic, but looking at the numbers at the bottom of the article: Each marker only has to mark 21 papers?!

      winellen.nienaber - 2012-12-02 22:33

Go and redo your calculations. Every learner has 8 subjects. And the markers is divided into different subjects - those that they teach. And then, you will find that each marker will mark round and about 6 000 papers.

      rudiwaan.joseph - 2012-12-07 20:54

darn! So they wont find time to squeeze in some sex then!

  • kosie.nel.14 - 2012-12-02 20:48

In the olden days, you know when, these low class rules were not needed, the markers were high class people, but since you know when ....

  • esther.badenhorst - 2012-12-02 22:12

Why must they be told this? So this happened before obviously?

  • ndyeboreginaldmazawule - 2012-12-03 01:10

    Crap then

  • thakantshala - 2012-12-03 05:52

    Marking centres are prison.

  • andrew.mackie.90 - 2012-12-03 07:42

WOW!! The mind bogles in that an edict must be published banning frivolous behavior at such an important time in the lives of the students who had sat for weeks studying and writing exams to ensure the markers had a clear mind.

  • collins.ntelele - 2012-12-03 07:46

I hope they got the message clearly!South Africa,ha ha ha.

  • carol.steenkamp.5 - 2012-12-03 08:07

Can't imagine how many re-marks are "owed" to students as a result of these sex-capades! What a disaster! Focus is everywhere and on everything else, except the issue at hand... Marking exam papers! I would hate to have "my future" obliterated by such sex-ing, partying idiot behaviour!

  • - 2012-12-03 08:14

I thought only people who were specialists in their subject (i.e. 'learned people' who where eligible to mark? Clearly i've been mistaken.....

  • gerda.vanrooyen.39 - 2012-12-03 08:22

    Are you serious? LOL

  • louis.hager.12 - 2012-12-03 08:38

Hahahaha Uit-steekend. Jy sal in die pad gesteek word. Die departement sal nooit oor dit kom nie. Jy sal geraps word as jy ander in die skande steek.

  • afrika.ayanda - 2012-12-03 09:39

say no to racism, markers need to have sex too,you filthy moron.

  • AmosMoledi - 2012-12-03 09:41

Why was sex even a question in this matter?

  • richard.zanner - 2012-12-03 09:49

I have no faith in the markers as the requirement for their grasp of the subject matter is not very high. The fact that they have to be told not to be drunk at work is also worrying. Our matric has become a joke.

  • pistonpete.outriders - 2012-12-03 10:15

Its just like one of the old referendums where the people visiting homes were given case. WTF is this gov thinking!! Its so sad i could almost cry!!

  • warrick.pumillio - 2012-12-03 10:17

Let me guess.. the markers are blacks!

      busisiwesbeju.gwe - 2012-12-03 15:19

Warrick, not all markers are blacks, the people who like sex the most are the white people so I think this law is stipulated for white males

  • pravda.che - 2012-12-03 10:27

maybe if they a pithed, and have a good bonk, the eastern cape pass rate will go up???

  • linda.duits - 2012-12-03 11:47

Pathetic! I cannot believe that adults behave this way in a work place! No wonder SA has a dire outcome regarding matric results.

  • wayne.faulds - 2012-12-03 12:00

Why do we even need to stipulate these undesirable behaviours in a code of conduct. Surely the inherent values and ethics of the teachers marking these papers should be sufficient? Or am i living in my own Utopian bubble?

  • Clerance Lephaka - 2012-12-03 12:03

    Very strict.

  • teresa.villarini - 2012-12-03 13:33

Omw if they have to be told how to behave should they even be there?

  • rude.awakning - 2012-12-04 07:21

    sex, lies and matric results!

  • rudiwaan.joseph - 2012-12-07 21:07

maybe the DoE should consider using computers to do the marking then, because surely all human makers will fall foul of this rule!
