Durban - Light dustings of snow have been reported in central South Africa as the mid-winter chill envelopes the nation.

With the cold spell expected to continue, the next few days could be the season’s best bet for snowfall.

Snow Report’s Helga Pearson said that as of Tuesday morning, no major snowfall had been reported.

“We have no reports in yet of visible snow in the KZN midlands or Southern Drakensberg. There was however quite a bit of snow in the Maluti and Black mountains of Lesotho,” she said.

She added that on Monday the elusive icicles had fallen in the Eastern Cape near the Tiffendell Ski Resort.

“A light sprinkling was visible around the Sani Pass area in the afternoon on Monday and we are hoping more snow has fallen overnight but as mentioned, no photos yet to confirm,” she said.

“The only snow expected for today may occur this afternoon near Afriski Resort in the Maluti Mountains area. We are seeing some activity for later this week over Lesotho and the Drakensberg but nothing we can confirm just yet,” Pearson added.
