Johannesburg - A nurse has been arrested for allegedly being in possession of undocumented medicine, the Eastern Cape health department said on Saturday.

The nurse, who worked at Zalarha clinic in the Amahlathi sub-district, was arrested at a road block on Friday, spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo told News24.

"It is alleged that she was stopped at the road block and on inspection of the vehicle, law enforcement officers found a consignment of medicines."

Law enforcement officials asked the nurse to produce the requisite documents for the medicine but she could not.

"She was apprehended immediately and the consignment was taken to safety," Kupelo said.

The nurse was expected to appear in court soon.
