Johannesburg - Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has been discharged from hospital after he was admitted with a bout of flu on Wednesday, said his spokesperson Vuyelwa Qinga.

The minister was hospitalised after he addressed the congress of the National Union of Mineworkers of SA (Numsa) in Durban.

The Young Communist League of SA (YCLSA) wished the minister a speedy recovery, national spokesman Mangaliso Khonza said in a statement.

"We wish him a speedy recovery so that he can return to his duty of leading the working class party and leading us to the realisation of the South African road to socialism," said Khonza.

It was unclear whether Nzimande will take time off from his job.

Did he go to a working class hospital?

Interesting question @Avril - my wife and I, quite by chance, discovered a "hidden" wing at Helen Joseph which has ELITE facilities...and I mean ELITE...all meant to cater for people like Nzimande...under the cover of a Public Hospital!!!!! - This person seems to epitomise the caricature of the communist upper echelon - espousing the ideology of proletarianism, but living a life of luxury.

  • Plato Pravda - 2012-06-07 12:18

And pray tell, how exactly is this news? Is this a special type of flu that we should be aware of? So here be have Blade spending 2 days in a private ward for a bout of flu, whilst the proletarian have no access to any medical care for genuine illness. The mind truly boggles at the contempt and disdain these 'Gucci Communists' show to the very people that voted them in.
