Official funeral for Chaskalson

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has decided to extend the honour of a special official funeral to former Chief Justice Arthur Chaskalson, the presidency has announced.

The funeral will be held at the Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg on Monday and Zuma would attend, presidential spokesperson Harold Maloka said in a statement.

Chaskalson, who died aged 81 in Johannesburg on Saturday, served as the first president of the Constitutional Court and as Chief Justice from November 2001 until his retirement in 2005.

Maloka said the national flag would be flown at half-mast from Monday until Friday.

    It's not as if we cannot afford it. We have lots of money!! All we need to do is cancell some school books and orher unnescessary items.

    Johan, Zuma is not doing it for himself. Some of us have great respect for this man & his positive contributions towards this country. Learn to separate issues & mature a bit. You can hate the man but recognize that your hatred for him does not mean that everyone else hates him. You can differ with him & still remain objective. Just a small lesson for you.
