Official in court for tender tampering

Bloemfontein - A case involving bus contract tenders accusations against a senior Northern Cape official, has been postponed until 26 August by the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Wednesday.

Provincial transport department head Steven Jonkers, 47, appeared on Tuesday with Clarissa Ann Carstens, 45, on charges of contravening the Public Finance Management Act, said Northern Cape NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi.

The charges related to the awarding of bus contracts in the Northern Cape's Springbok region.

Malabi said Jonkers' counsel had told the court he would make a presentation to the prosecution.
