Cape Town - Fifteen people are expected in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrate's Court shortly, after they were arrested in an Operation Fiela crackdown in Eastridge, Cape Town, on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said in a statement that officers focused on guns, drugs, gangs and wanted suspects during the special operation, which took place between 01:30 and 10:00.

During the operation 57 properties, 40 vehicles and 207 people were searched, he said.

"At about 02:42, the members [executed] a search warrant at a house in Zebra Crescent, Eastridge. They recovered a Nicro 9mm pistol with a magazine with four rounds of ammunition," Van Wyk said.

A 50-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrate's Court shortly on charges relating to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Less than an hour later, a pistol with a magazine and 15 rounds of ammunition was confiscated in the same street.

A 37-year-old man was arrested.

"At about 04:15 they executed another search warrant in Sentinel Street, Tafelsig.  During the search the members discovered 10 packets of tik, 10 half Mandrax tablets, a black pistol and ammunition hidden inside the house," Van Wyk said.

"The two suspects, a man and a woman aged 38 and 50, were arrested and will appear soon in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrate's Court on charges relating to the possession of drugs, firearm and ammunition."

Van Wyk said the total drugs haul for the operation included 12 Mandrax tablets, nine 'stoppe' dagga, 72 dagga sticks, one big dagga tree and 20 tik packets.
