Oscar in extreme shock, uncle says

2013-02-20 20:03

Johannesburg - Murder-accused Paralympian Oscar Pistorius only started eating on Tuesday night, said his uncle Arnold.

"He only started to eat last night," he told eNews Channel Africa on Wednesday.

"Carl and Aimee [Pistorius' brother and sister] tell me they sit with him and he spends a lot of time reading, especially reading the Bible, as his mother taught him."

Pistorius has been under arrest since his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead in his Pretoria home in the early hours of Thursday last week.

He has been charged with murder, and his bail application is underway in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court.

Arnold said this had been a tough time for the family, but they stood behind the athlete all the way.

He voiced concern over what he described as his nephew's "public trial".

"The case is [on]going and you can judge for yourself... the truth will prevail," he said.

In the TV interview, Arnold said the Pistorius family has been in contact with the Steenkamps but respected their privacy and loss.

Asked about allegations that Pistorius had a history of violence, he described Pistorius as a "peacemaker".

Pistorius was in extreme shock and was grieving in this "emotionally tough time" said his uncle.

"The world will see a different Oscar; nobody can be the same ever again if such a tragedy comes over your life, but he will bounce back and be greater than ever."

Steenkamp was cremated at a private ceremony in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.

I would also be in extreme shock if I murdered a wonderful soul and killed my whole career in one stupid aggressive moment and still lie about it. So let's hope the honest truth comes out for Reeava's family sake.

      craven.luyt - 2013-02-20 21:03

I agree, ballistics will nail him. The investigators saw what happened at that crime scene. I would sooner believe that he was infected with an alien violence virus than that he accidentally shot though a door without knowing where she was??

      Emmanuel Dikongue - 2013-02-20 22:01

you live in hell. now i know

      john.loveland.9 - 2013-02-21 08:41

A script written by a well paid spin doctor. We going to hear a lot more "heart wrenching and touching" stories from the family before the end of this trial.

      ejehlers.wp - 2013-02-21 09:03

People how can u make comments like that without knowing the facts yourself, you've already decided he is guilty so no matter what he says or evidence shows you will believe he is guilty period. You are very judgmental

  • - 2013-02-20 20:37

Yeah, very sad....wonder how Reeva's feeling.... Oh wait.

  • Karen Julie - 2013-02-20 20:39

Why was Reeva's cellphone and his cellphone in the bathroom? Did he maybe go through her phone while she was in the toilet and found a message? Shouted at her and she quickly locked the door. Then just lost it in anger? Shots were fired from top down and the bat was used at the top of the door. Weather he gets bail or not, he will have a tough case explaining why he lied in his statement about his prosthesis being off at the time. Wait for the actual case Oscar fans. Come clear Oscar and we might support you

      Emmanuel Dikongue - 2013-02-20 21:54

Karen Julie you are full of hatred and must consider visiting a local pastor and stop spreading your negative vibrations on this site. I love you Oscar and know you are INNOCENT!

      Freda Cawood - 2013-02-20 22:40

Jip that sounds just About how it happened! Angry at her and lost it because of arrogance! He should stay put - in jail!

      allison.minnaar - 2013-02-21 07:59

Could it be that she wanted to call a friend at that time, knowing the kind of person he is. Violence does not solve any problem Oscar,

      ejehlers.wp - 2013-02-21 09:08

It seems to me you know more about the case than the police, I think you should go testify. Just hope you've got evidence to prove your theory.

  • Deon de Beer - 2013-02-20 20:41

Stay strong Oscar. This was a mistake and it is one that you will have to live with and I cannot begin to imagine the weight of your cross that you have to carry. You will be in safe hands with God in your heart. If it wasn't for living in a society where murder, rape, overall crime and violence was such a part of our lives then things like this would have never happened where a father shot his 4year old daughter threw his bedroom door, mistaken for a intruder a couple of months ago, a year or two ago another father also shot dead his daughter in her car as she pulled out of the garage mistaken her as a carjacker and now Oscar. I say our sick crime filled society is to blame and needs to be on trail.

      Deon de Beer - 2013-02-20 21:09

David, I never comment on social media as this was my first time ever. I follow the news very closely and not once did I read anything bad about Reeva, all the comments about her and her family is positive and supportive. I'm sure she was a wonderfull person and that her family is in unimaginable pain. I feel very sorry for them and for her as they suffer because of the same reason I posted above. I take my hat of for them that they do not judge Oscar as yet and give him a chance to state his side of the story, unlike people here that already made up their minds. I say only God can judge and it is not for me to decide.

      craven.luyt - 2013-02-20 21:10

Crime of passion, fuelled by jealousy and booze, ignited by what? Forensics and ballistics will tell the story for Reeva.

      Charmaine Paterson - 2013-02-20 21:33

How often do you read that a gun-owner managed to protect his loved ones with a weapon? How often do you read how the gun-owner's weapon was used to kill someone in their own circle? I think owning a gun as protection is over-rated, it would be interesting to see how many gun-owners have actually protected themselves and their belongings with a weapon.

      Deon de Beer - 2013-02-20 21:48

@Insanity RulesAll. You start your sentence, already giving away that you are a judgmental person. I say anything is possible, did you never made a mistake in your life or an accident happened to you. Normaly after an accident if you look at what happened, you realise how easy you could have avoid it but it still happened. The other day a mother drove over her own child in their driveway and killed her. That mother did not do it on purpose but it still happened. I say MAYBE Oscar did not mean to shoot Reeva and that he was in the mindset of protecting her and himself, it is not for me to judge about it and to crucify him with the little knowledge that we have that the media feeds us and then it is not always 100% correct. Look at what we knew a couple of days ago and what we know now, she was assaulted with the bat, steroids, police came out to his house earlier the evening for domestic violence and today we KNOW all of that is not true. Who was the idiot then who just accepted everything they read as?

      Dee - 2013-02-21 00:23

I also feel for Oscar! Can't imagine what he must be going thru!

      ejehlers.wp - 2013-02-21 09:14

Deon I agree with u people can be insensitive, rude and judgmental, they say things without thinking. I've read some bazaar statements. For some people its more about the sensation then the actual story (tragedy)

  • Erna Speed Glitterbug - 2013-02-20 20:44

Pistorius - its NOT too late to tell the truth. Always tell the truth no matter what or how bad. No judge, lawyer or prosecuter will be able to shoot holes into your story and u would also b able t live with urself afterwards. Accept and take the consequenses from the truth. The court and public can see many holes in your story as it stands. As it is - I just can't believe that an intruder will lock himself in the toilet - its laughable!

      Miandra van Zyl - 2013-02-20 20:50

Erna my problem is how did Oscar knew the door was locked? Did he turned the knob? Surely she would have said hi I'm in the toilet if he turned the door knob. Some things don't make sense

      Erna Speed Glitterbug - 2013-02-20 20:56

Just tooooooo many holes in the whole story!

  • Sivenkosi Theophilas Kibido - 2013-02-20 20:53

guys its not like u where there when the accident took place so please don't judge Oscar the man is in pain

  • dorothy.bauer.58 - 2013-02-20 20:54

In extreme shock one can never even make sense of anything let alone read a bible come on uncle..

      Elmaré Koekemoer - 2013-02-20 22:34

In extreem shock any born again Christian will read the bible and it will comfort them.

  • Jimmy Millionwatts - 2013-02-20 20:59

I think the word Shock is now Shocked. All news24 headlines related to this Oscar Murder/incident/accident/self defence/ surprise/ or whatever ends with the word SHOCK. Bolt in Shock, Oscar in Shock, The nation in Shock, Neighbours in Shock, Journalists in Shock, Family in Shock, Nike in Shock, Shock this, Shock that, Shock me, Shock you, Shock, Shock horror Shock!

  • Karen Julie - 2013-02-20 21:00

Oscar fans, murders is NEVER an accident especially if you haven't been threatened.. No matter what you say. Please reserve your comments for after the trial. U make me sick with your cold hearts

      Ros Rose - 2013-02-20 21:11

      Grow up

      Conrad Kriel Conradie - 2013-02-20 21:18

so you are saying tha the mother that accidently drove over her child is amurderer? no accident?

      Claudine Whitnall Readings - 2013-02-20 21:36

So if you accidentally kill a cyclist for instance while driving in your car is it fair to say that MURDER IS NEVER AN ACCIDENT. Or the man who two months ago shot his 8 year old daughter dead during a house robbery. Are you implying this was also no accident. Please don't be so quick to pass judgement. Everyone deserves a fair trial.

  • Adeeb Saban - 2013-02-20 21:00

Culpable homicide (if accident), no matter which way u play it. That's 10 yrs minimum.

      Heather Campbell Matthewson - 2013-02-20 21:17

ok adeeb, so when is the 'popular' singer going to be arrested charged and jailed for ten years

  • Refiloe Thelma Shikwambana - 2013-02-20 21:05

    Reading the bible. Yo

  • Thenjiwe Sindi - 2013-02-20 21:10

That's why I never go to sleep with the lights off,my family always complain about that, but nevertheless after hearing today 's court arguments.I say innocent until proven guily, may the mighty Lord give both families the strength to over come this tragedy. It is not our place to judge we were not there on that horrible morning.

  • quintin.matthews.7 - 2013-02-20 21:11

You so correct....... if i was there i would not have killed my girlfriend. I would have firstly shouted for her as i would have relaised she was not in bed when i returned from the patio and then secured my intruder in the locked bathroom or toilet for the cops to deal with. His actions were very clear.

      Michael Jackwood - 2013-02-20 21:46

I am not a lawyer but i can handle this case with my zero experience, even a grandmother from rural area can question Pistorius, i dont buy his story at all how can one not realise that their girlfriend they love so much is not in bed, i just shoot, more that three times, i mean this is ridiculous.

  • Ros Rose - 2013-02-20 21:12

    And this is relevant? Why?

  • Malose Kgosana - 2013-02-20 21:13

Oscar Pistorius'(R1,5million)house is not installed with a camera whereby a footage can help in bringing a proper evidence?

      Karen Julie - 2013-02-20 21:23

No. R6.5 million house in very secure estate and sleeping with balcony door open. What a joke

      Karen Julie - 2013-02-20 21:24

No. R6.5 million house in very secure estate and u paranoid of death threats and burglars? e and sleeping with balcony door open. What a joke

  • Mduduzi Abram Simelane - 2013-02-20 21:17

Relevant? Why the bible? is it relevant after taking someones life?

      Heather Campbell Matthewson - 2013-02-20 21:22

Mduduzi - pls go through oscars tweets before you question why he has asked for a bible!

      Sundri Govender - 2013-02-20 22:19

Probably repenting for his actions. God knows!

      Elmaré Koekemoer - 2013-02-20 22:26

Whats wrong with reading his bibel that is where all Christians get their strength from.

  • Heather Campbell Matthewson - 2013-02-20 21:20

yes refelo ! now if u have gone though oscars tweets you will fine tweets with reference to the bible. Ostrich!!

      Mduduzi Abram Simelane - 2013-02-20 21:24

m sure he must have been preparing for this.

      Nastassja Vermeulen Soru - 2013-02-21 00:15

Don't be stupid! How the hell can you say he has been preparing? He has had religious quotes since before he and Reeva started dating! We live in a. Country burdened with crime! Every night I get in bed terrified! I don't want to be killed or let my Children get hurt! I will also jump into defense mode if I heard something in the house! Don't judge him cause of who or what he is! Yes its wrong that he shot her but he didn't plan it! A few months ago a father shot his daughter thru the door! Time to stand up against crime so that stuff like this doesn't happen

  • Simon Makwelana - 2013-02-20 21:32

    O.J Simpson

  • Ian Robert Reid - 2013-02-20 21:35

Judgment belongs 2God only?? my opinion he did wrong 4sure?? Oscar Pistorious made a bad judgment call and cannot turn the clock back?? he must do time??

  • Kerry Leigh Malyon - 2013-02-20 21:57

Who are we to judge what Oscar should or shouldn't have done based on what he said happened...we all can speculate what we would have done differently but we weren't in the situation...what we say we would do and what we actually do in the situation could be 2 very different things.

      Craig Pillay - 2013-02-20 22:56

Agree. Somehow people assume that they would've been all calm and collective, like 007. Let the court do its job I say.

  • Zani Venter - 2013-02-20 22:01

We believe Reeva's death was an accident,a terrible tragedy!God WILL carry you through this very difficult time in your life!We pray that he comforts you and brings the truth to light so that you can start putting the pieces of your life back together!

  • Jo-Ann Ingram - 2013-02-20 22:11

I'm really not sure what to think, Oscar is someone I admired, he has overcome so much and has achieved so much despite despite obstacles and challenges in his life. Would he really throw it all away? If its murder he has to suffer the consequences, if its a tragic accident its something he has to live with for the rest of his life. Just because he is well know, he is being slaughtered by the media and the public. What about all the farm murders, people that get killed daily in townships. Have those victims got justice? Sometimes not. Let's hear him out and pray for him and may the Steenkamp family find comfort in the truth

  • Ray Molekoa - 2013-02-20 22:15

Give him a fair trial when time comes , bail for now . Like all of us , he is a human being in this democratic country with the best constitution in the world . Yes he is charged with murder but he is not convicted as yet . Besides , Roux has already started punching holes in the case !

  • Mdluli Vusi - 2013-02-20 22:28

Wow!!Christians are just merciless killers you believe it was an accident the baglar is the 1 who was supposed to be killed in the locked toilet because the baglar is no Gods child.oscar what clever move to pull that religious card.sundenlty you got these sheeps following you.leave God out of this if he had any interest he was going to save Reeva that morning.

      Craig Pillay - 2013-02-20 22:36

What an idiotic statement. Do you have intelligence/evidence that the top lawyers in the country don't? Where you there? Base your comments on rational facts, and not speculation.

      Mdluli Vusi - 2013-02-20 22:57

@ Kerry Leigh Malyon thank you for your contribution.

  • Guguza Eve Kekae - 2013-02-20 22:30

oscar he the only one who what happend, but he must tell nothing but the truth.

      Mdluli Vusi - 2013-02-20 22:53

What if the truth won't set him free.

  • Janice Coetzee - 2013-02-20 22:57

Sadly when you make a mistake , hurt someone and in this case killed someone you start to regret, grief and in his Case he's starting to think of a way out of this mess, I feel really sorry for the guy but FFS she's dead , he ended her life, he's been known for angry outbursts etc... Take note people a few moments of anger can change your whole life, walk away when things get too rough

  • Sbusiso Mgoza - 2013-02-20 23:02

The court proceedings seem to be tilting towards Pistorius defence It appears as a tale of a disabled man who panicked which led into tragedy. In our crime ridden SA who wouldn't panic at the slightest sound .Crime weary southafricans may end up making such huge mistakes trying to protect themslves and who are close to them.

  • tanya.gomes.9237 - 2013-02-20 23:08

Oh come on people, it's too early to judge as a lot is still to come out before we can make a decision. There are only 3 people who know the truth- Oscar, Reeva and God, ones dead and the other will judge when it's Oscar's time. In the mean time look at it in this simple way: 1) found to be innocent in trial and he really is (still a killer but by mistake) - he should donate as much as he can to apologize to the Steenkaamp family... Open a foundation in Reeva's honor with something she truly believed in i.e. abuse against woman- this doesn't make up for what he did but its a start! 2) found innocent but is actually guilty - let's hope that he's conscience haunts him and he does away with himself in whichever way God sees fit. 3) guilty and is innocent - let's hope that some guardian angel helps prove his innocence and he is set free 4) guilty and is guilty - serve out your prison sentence, make he's guilt known to the world and let that eat at him when he's in the overcrowded cell and when he gets out apologize as best as he can to the Steenkaamp family. In my opinion I don't want to judge before hand and convict him based on unsupported facts.. But I feel that I would like to believe that he is innocent as I can't believe someone with everything he has (and that the normal person dreams about) would throw it all away just like that. Give him he's day in court and wait for all confirmed facts based on forensics, witnesses and so on. Convict him if there is proof beyond reasonable doubt. Imagine if there is a "life after death" and she's sitting in heaven or wherever and is suffering that he is innocent (mistake killing). But then again it can be the other, lets hope that there is still honesty in people and he is showing it.

  • Jennifer Nda - 2013-02-20 23:12

will never know what happened on that fateful day. Maybe its was a mistake,he didn't mean to kill her.lets not crucify him, only god knows what happened guys.

  • trayc.mmotla - 2013-02-20 23:14

    Tx Tanya

  • Sbusiso Mgoza - 2013-02-20 23:24

What happened in court today refuted some of the conclusions fueled by sensationalists. He had a very bright future ahead of him,I fail to piece together that an intelligent, loved worldover star will purposely risk riches and fame for a prison sentence. It all unfolds as an accident

  • debinikita - 2013-02-20 23:41

I do think that the 'Bible' thing is a bit OTT... Give me a Kit-Kat.

  • debinikita - 2013-02-20 23:43

I agree with you Mududuzi.. Was the bible relevant?

      Hangwani Mamphiswana - 2013-02-21 00:06

      Absolutely. It's a Christian thing.

  • Annelien Jones - 2013-02-21 06:07

its really funny how the majority of south africans immediately cried "murderer!" in the wake of the tragedy. now that some of the facts got out and the states case were shattered by the defense yesterday, some have changed their tunes. If oscar is innocent and proven as such, he"ll probably emigrate to another country following the "great" support he's received in South Africa. I hope he gets free.

      Blessing Raymond - 2013-02-21 08:54

I can't believe you said this, oscar shot reeva 4 times not once. When he shot her the first time she must have screamed, certainly oscar knows her voice, why did'nt he stop rather he fired on, it is murder my dear and may what happened to reeva happen to you and may your husband or fiancee walk away free,Amen

  • jennifer.h.jordaan - 2013-02-21 07:53

just tell the truth and face the consequences

  • isabel.mcgregor.75 - 2013-02-21 08:52

So much for the Defence complaining about the police messing up the crime scene. What about him having his father there contaminating the scene? hmm or maybe trying to help him clear up things but unfortunately for Oscar, someone had already called the cops. Poor man, so afraid of the crime in this country that he sleeps with his sliding doors open at night , now that makes sooooooooo much sense or not!!! My neighbours live 350m away from my home and believe me, when they have a serious argument, I can hear them. I suggest they re-enact the scene and go there and use a male and female and let them shout and scream and see how much the neighbours can hear, you will be shocked.......come on big old Defence team, what have you got to lose. Get some actors and use them for this purpose. I will be laughing all the way.

  • Fifles - 2013-02-21 10:00
