Durban - Six people were badly injured when they were hit by an out-of-control car which veered from Main Road in Ndwedwe on Wednesday.

The group is understood to have been waiting for a bus at the roadside when the careering car struck them as it rolled up an embankment.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst said that two people in the group were in “critical condition” and were fighting for their lives.

“What we understand is that the car had mounted the curb after leaving the road and hit the embankment. The people who were standing on the sidewalk waiting for transport were directly in its path,” he said.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the injured lying near the wreckage of the car. Two people were [injured] in a bad way and advanced life support paramedics set about trying to stabilise them. They were the priority and were rushed to hospital by ambulance,” he said.

Herbst added that the cause of the crash was still unclear.
