Chief Fire Disaster manager Lester Smith told News24 on Wednesday fire-engines have been deployed to an “out of control fire” ” in the Haderhof area, near Pearly Beach.

He said: “In addition, two ground crews have been sent to aid the firefighters currently there.”

The first fire in the municipality was reported on Saturday, which had since been extinguished.

To date Betty's Bay, Paltbos and Haderhof, have also reported various fires flaring up.

Smith said his team were hard at work trying to contain the fires.

No injuries have been reported, but two houses have been damaged.

“In Hawston, a number of fires flared up early Wednesday morning. The fire has since been put out, and a fire engine from the Stellenbosch municipality is helping mop-up some of the hot spot areas near the R43,” said Smith.

He reported that his team have been able to control a large fire, which is still burning in Platbos.
