PJ-clad speedster caught

2012-11-11 22:59

Johannesburg - Two motorists, one of them in his pyjamas, and a motorcyclist were arrested for speeding in Benoni on Saturday, Ekurhuleni traffic officials said.

A driver in a black Mercedes Benz was arrested when he was caught driving 142km/h in a 80km/h zone on Snake Road, Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said.

"Although he was clad in pyjamas, he claimed that he was rushing to pick up his colleague as they were late for work."

A 38-year-old man in a red Mercedes Benz was caught doing 134km/h, and a 44-year-old biker was clocked going at 136km/h on the same stretch of road. The former gave no reasons for speeding, while the latter claimed he was en route to take a look at Carnival City as he planned to take his family there on Sunday.

A total of 241 motorists were clocked exceeding the speed limit and would get their fines in the post.

All three arrested speedsters were released on bail of R1 000 each and were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Maybe taking their pictures and naming and shaming will help them learn that the law is the law, but sadly the police are wasting their time the more Mr Zuma steals from this country the more the people become unruly and the more police get shot at or harmed. Its time for a revolution! but not one lead by any idiot like Malema or Zuma

      ratsaka.eugene - 2012-11-12 05:56

One lead by buffoon I guess. Three fingers are pointing at u.

  • godesha - 2012-11-12 06:18

Funny, the bit about the PJ's, not the speeding. Saw a broken down car the other morning and the woman driving it, was still wearing her pj's too.

Why were they in such a rush to get to Brakpan?

      jason.dutoit - 2012-11-12 07:48

not trying to get to brakpan. trying to get away from benoni!

  • StreetRacer911 - 2012-11-12 07:30

I hate speedtraps. In SA, it is not a safety precaution. It is a money making scheme. Suddenly all the new cameras are a camo grey colour. Not easily visible. Overseas, all cameras are brightly coloured.

  • IcemanGP - 2012-11-12 08:17

All fines received in the post should be NULL AND VOID and deemed ILLEGAL.

  • lulama - 2012-11-12 08:31

What color was the bike? Why mention only car colors?

      Msika - 2012-11-12 13:43

Does it really matter now? How is that going to make your life easier or difficult for that matter? The next thing you will be asking, why they never mention the colour of the PJ's.

  • Msika - 2012-11-12 13:38

Come on! Arrested for doing 134 ks, really? They could have just issued speeding fines that's it.
