Johannesburg - A Premier Soccer League player was arrested in Pretoria on Sunday for resisting arrest and failing to produce a drivers licence, Tshwane metro police said.

The player was driving in a turning lane in Hatfield, but carried on driving straight putting other drivers in danger, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.

"One of our members spotted him doing this and when he tried to stop him, he refused.

"We had to call for backup and chase him."

The soccer player was eventually cornered by metro police.

"When our members asked him to produce a drivers licence and get out the vehicle, he refused," Mahamba said.

"He was angry and yelling at our members. In the end they pulled him out of the vehicle."

The man was arrested and taken to the Brooklyn police station

Mahamba said the player would be charged with resisting arrest and failing to produce a drivers licence.
