Johannesburg - Two men were sentenced in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Friday to nine years imprisonment for armed robbery, Eastern Cape police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Sakhive Joseph, 20, and Unathi Goba, 21, had pleaded guilty to robbing a man at knife-point in January 2011.

"The elderly man was walking in the street when five men surrounded him and robbed him of his cellphone, cash, and stationery," said Naidu.

"The man managed to flag down a passing police vehicle and reported the incident to them. Two of the robbers were arrested."

Naidu said the other three men were not arrested.

only nine years? Then what? They will be out on the streets more hardened and better schooled in crime. How long does a nine year sentence last these days? 2 to 3 maybe, if their leader doesn't give them a reprieve even earlier. The justice system in south africa does not work!
