Johannesburg - A Pakistani man has been fined R25 000 for possession of contraband cigarettes, North West police said on Thursday.

The Atamaleng regional court fined Abdul Hafeez R65 000 or five years imprisonment, but suspended R40 000 (four years) on condition he not be arrested again for the same crime, said police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone.

Hafeez was arrested on 27 June in Sannieshof on Deelpan, North West.

A man arrested with him was later released.

He was found in possession of 39 cases of contraband cigarettes worth about R278 448 on the street, said Mokgwabone.

When he's paid the fine and any outstanding taxes then deport him. This country is under no obligation to host parasites like this.
