Paralysed farmer's wife dies after attack

2012-07-06 11:32

Polokwane - The Limpopo farmer's wife who was left a paraplegic after a farm attack two weeks ago died on Thursday night, Beeld reported.

Gloudien van Rensburg, 62, had been in the Limpopo Mediclinic, in Polokwane, since the attack on June 20, in which her husband Johan, 77, was shot dead next to her.

According to the newspaper, she was paralysed from the neck down during the attack, and suffered a stroke earlier this week.

Doctors summoned her children to the hospital on Thursday when her condition deteriorated.

Samuel Machoga, 32, Jonathan Mafifi, 29, Elvis Kobe, 23 and Marcus Sithole, 43, were arrested after the attack.

      ann.murray.9279 - 2012-07-06 12:49

Poor lady. RIP and meet with your beloved husband on the other side. Something MUST be done regarding these atrocious attacks. I don't care what JZ says - there is a huge problem in this country!!!

      dean.obree - 2012-07-06 12:57

John, I agree with you 100% that it is a waste of life. All the people of RSA must look at this: South Africa is a Stage 5, not far to go now and there are no signs of preventative measures in place. You must look at this pro-rata, let me explain if you lose 20 out of 2000 = 1%, if you lose 20 out of 200 000 = 0.001%. What % does the productive farmer make up of the whole RSA population and how many are getting murderded or dying of unnatural causes? This is irrespective of race, religion, creed etc.

      jackal666.daniel - 2012-07-06 12:59

Remember Zoomer said it is not racially motivated. Damn pigs!

      Michaele - 2012-07-06 13:17

When the land has been taken and given away, will the killings continue? No, because these killings are politically and racially motivated!!

R.I.P. Gloudien - reunited with Johan. Deepest sympathies to the family left behind. Yet more citizens who's energies will go into grieving instead of building up the nation. The ANC has not brought freedom to the people of SA but has turned us into a nation of mourners..........

  • sizwe.bwana - 2012-07-06 11:43

4 more dudes that the taxpayer will have to feed for the next 25 years. This would not happen if they had their economic freedom, had a house, a job, a car. Govment needs to give these guys something to live for so they don't need to do crime to survive.

      richard.hipkin - 2012-07-06 11:46

25 years? No my friend, they will be out after about 8..

      rob.baggaley - 2012-07-06 11:48

@ sizwe. Pathetic comment sizwe, but oh, so typical.

      rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-07-06 11:53

Sizwe: give them stuff! How will that help develop a sense of value? Unless you are talking about government providing opportunities for them to work for a living. Look out of your car/taxi window almost anywhere to see what needs to be done, plenty of work opportunities everywhere. I mean it is not as if the money from taxpayers is not flowing into the coffers.

      JoeFarmer - 2012-07-06 11:56

"had a house, a job, a car" "Govment needs to give these guys ", that is the sheeple mentality. they needed to get an education, to get a job, to buy a car and buy a house. you are a sad reflection of the African psyche 'GIMME, GIMME,GIMME' but shame it's not their fault poor little 'victims' of the past

      carl.debeer.33 - 2012-07-06 11:59

@Sizwe. So what have YOU done to make the difference?....

      Raymond - 2012-07-06 12:00

Bananasizwe, why do they have to murder if it is just to get their hands on money? You are pathetic.

      BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-07-06 12:05

You don't get 'given things' to live for idiot. People are responsible to make their own way in life. Success is not based on or achieved by hand-outs. You're supposed to make your own way in life, not demand from others.

      carl.debeer.33 - 2012-07-06 12:07

What is your understanding of "economic freedom".Do you think people just get houses and jobs for free. Pay your accounts and get them up to date! that's why you all have nothing!

      boltonbarry - 2012-07-06 12:12

Sizwe I actually agree with you BUT there shear barbarity in which these attacks take place can not be blamed on economic imprisonment.

      riette.nothling - 2012-07-06 12:21

Sizwe, no matter how poor they are the had no reason to murder, they could have taken what they wanted, in this case they did, the lives of white farmers! So shut up about economic freedom and all that nonsense, this comes down to being savage, not hungry!!!

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-07-06 12:23

Sizwe please man, all over the world people have to work and earn those things in order to enjoy economic freedom. Take your head out of Juju's huge backside and think about it. If you gave an unemployable person a car, how will they fill it up or service it to keep it in a condition? A house, how will they maintain it and pay for rates and service charges? A job? What job if they sat on their behinds and did not want to study? I'm happy to have my tax used for those scumbags to live their lives caged in prison. I just hope Zuma does not pardon them until they are old and grey and therefore harmless. Geez dude, you are such an embarrassment!

      deon.louw.7505 - 2012-07-06 12:32

Education, work and save. This is how it is done. Many people stumble at the first step. Take responsibility for your own stupidity should you leave school before you past grade 12.

      rob.tubbs.39 - 2012-07-08 18:46

Your Sir a 'dip-stick' and hopefully have achieved your 'economic freedom' whatever that is? How many years have you and your 'like' had to 'try' and achieve this under the ANC Government, who by the way you also blame. You can therefore not be a ANC supporter. Correct. 'Scum-bag'...

  • Thobile Lugwadu - 2012-07-06 12:17

May her soul and that of her husband rest in peace. Given their ages, the brutal and savage attack is sincerely felt. I will never wish death to any human being, regardless of what may have led to the crime. Hopefully their loved ones will find solace in that they are not griebing alone.

  • riette.nothling - 2012-07-06 12:19

RIP Mrs van Rensburg. I will be praying everyday that the justice system does not fail you and your husband as it has so many other farmers who were killed in this senseless violence against you. I hope that Mr Zuma will wake up and change his mind about the reason farmers are being killed, because at some stage enough will be enough.

  • rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-07-06 12:29

Sad it is, and condolences to the family. But this racial question is really confusing. If such killings are 'racially' motivated does it mean that there is some sort of an excuse for the crimes? Does it soften the court's view? Or does it just mean that some blame (and accountability) lies with individual's who stir up racial tension? If the crime is not "racial" what then, does it really make any difference? Whatever the 'racial' position such inhuman crimes are a clear indictment on the morality of the perpetrators AND anyone who has been in any way involved in the development of their worldview. The examples set by many people in positions of public trust or visible leadership makes those people equally guilty as the murders themselves.

  • lulama - 2012-07-06 12:32

So, to the four courageous "men" who took coached retribution to the ultimate level, kindly allow me to wish you a speedy journey to hell and a curse on any like minded barbarian

      wilana.olivier - 2012-07-06 13:33

@Jwarha - yes ALL people that can think for themselves and have a knowledge between right and wrong are human beings. South Africa can do without people like you. You contribute 0% to a healthy society. Does not matter what one's skin colour is, a murder is a murder is a murder. Do you think that your skin colour excuses you from bad behaviour? Never. I met plenty of other ethnic people that have absolutely excellent manners and I will treat them with utmost respect because THEY DESERVE it. Do you deserve respect?

      wilana.olivier - 2012-07-06 14:27

I never committed a murder. I never physically harmed an animal or human in my life. You just called me a murderer and a mass murdered for that matter. How old are you? I was in nappies in the apartheid years, did I maybe beat somebody to death with my baby-bottle? You know what, *sigh* I am so tired of some of you black people just going on and on and on about this apartheid thing. GET OVER IT. Us whites had to get over the Anglo-Boer War where 1000's of our women and children were killed like animals. Maybe when you one day look to the future you will see that you missed out many years of your life. Thank God my friends are not like you.

      wilana.olivier - 2012-07-06 13:38

They want to put the boeremag on trial for treason for wanting to overthrow the government when they have the blood of all the people murdered in south Africa on their hands as they are directly responsible for the lack of policing and services in this country. Don't even try to argue against my statement as anything you put forward will be as feeble as Zuma blaming Verwoerd for his governments incompetence.

Just to clarify Zuma blaming Verwoerd for the ANC governments incompetence.
