Cape Town - The dismissal earlier this week of a correctional officer, who was filmed having sex with a policewoman in a prison hospital, was welcomed by Parliament's correctional services portfolio committee on Thursday.

"We are happy with the decision to dismiss the officer, and we commend the speedy way in which the case was handled," committee chairperson Vincent Smith said in a statement.

On August 15, footage of the correctional officer having sex with the policewoman was published by the Sowetan newspaper. The pair, both in uniform, were on duty and supposed to be guarding a prisoner at the hospital at the time.

The pictures caused embarrassment to both the department of correctional services and the police.

According to the Sowetan, the correctional officer filmed the encounter himself.

The correctional officer was suspended by the department and subsequently fired on Tuesday this week, after a disciplinary hearing.

The woman is too valuable. She arrests criminals. Correctional officers are not valuable at all, as arrested criminals manages to escape from correctional services with or without them!

Why was correctional services not equally hasty in dismissing the Eastern Cape prison warder who was arrested, with nine others, for being part of an organised dog fighting tournament in Plettenberg Bay earlier this year. Out on bail but still fit to guard criminals? Come on...

I do not for a moment believe that the correctional officer was indeed fired.

The sex could not have been THAT MUCH enjoyable if they were both in their uniforms, as stated in the article. Not much style, I say old chap. :-)

No wonder HIV is so rife in this country cos people still have unprotected sex with strangers and actually believe them if they tell them they are HIV negative! And so much for watching the prisoner, getting paid to not do your job - typical of government departments!
