ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said there were 22 passengers on the bus, and none were injured.

The bus was one of several vehicles that became trapped when the Groot River overflowed in Meiringspoort outside Oudtshoorn late on Monday night. The area experienced heavy rains on Monday, which resulted in the flooding.

According to a tweet from MSB Weather 2013, the N12 Route was closed to traffic at the Meiringspoort Pass on Tuesday following the flooding.

The George Herald reported on Tuesday that the occupants of the bus climbed through the windows of the top floor and waited on the cliff as the water levels rapidly rose. At about midnight the water subsided and they came down, waiting to be rescued.

According to the report, the bus will be towed by a breakdown service on Tuesday.

The occupants of a green Golf, which was apparently swept away by the floodwaters, were also rescued. One of them was admitted to hospital, according to the George Herald.
