Port Elizabeth - A popular mid-morning community radio presenter, who is also a pastor, has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an underage girl for the past two years.

Nelson Mandela Bay police spokesperson, Captain Johan Rheeder, said the man, in his mid-40's, is alleged to have had an ongoing sexual relationship with the girl, who was 15 when they started having intercourse.

Rheeder said the teenager told the Family Violence, Sexual Offences and Child Protection Unit that they had intercourse on a regular basis and showed the police explicit images the man had taken of his private parts and had sent to her on her cellphone.

The man was facing charges of rape, as well as the illegal manufacture and distribution of pornographic images.

"Following investigations, it has been confirmed that the images did originate from his cellphone, which has led to the additional charge of the illegal manufacture and distribution of pornographic images," Rheeder said.

The man had been arrested at his Gelvandale home on Thursday afternoon. He will remain in custody and was due to appear in court on Monday.

A presenter at another Port Elizabeth community radio station, Kingfisher FM, was arrested last month on a charge of sexual assault for stalking and threatening a woman.

The 35-year-old suspect is out on bail of R2 000 and is due in court again on October 22.
