Pastor dies on pulpit during funeral

Bloemfontein - A popular pastor died from a heart attack on the pulpit as he led a funeral service in the Free State.

Die Volksblad reported that Hans Williams, 76, collapsed as he was reading from the Bible.

He had just told the congregation that it was the day on which he and his deceased wife would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Williams had retired as a pastor but still regularly led weddings and funerals.

His daughter Lauretta van Wyk said her father had still been in mourning for her mother who died last year.

Community members remembered him as wise, thoughtful and active in the church and his community.

He was survived by two sons, three daughters and 12 grandchildren.

I think they should've just thrown him in that same casket as the person he was burying.

I find it very strange that God does this type of thing...this must have made the mourners at the funeral even more traumatised??

      antin.herinck - 2012-07-12 13:35

As they say (because they don't know what to say): his ways are mysterious. Or: do not question god. Or: in his infinite wisdom, he does things we cannot understand. Still, this is better than having an entire congregation wiped out, when the church collapses during a mild earthquake. Which does also happen. Richard you, me and a lot of other folks. But don't say it out loud. Or have them howling in "righteous anger".
