Pastor held for rape in church

2013-02-09 12:13

Johannesburg - A Soweto pastor has been arrested for the rape of a woman who told police he had forced her to have sex with him three times in his church and in a locked room, police said on Saturday morning.

The woman reported him to Jabulani Police immediately after allegedly being released on Friday night, after which the pastor, who is around 30-years-old and from Zola, was arrested, said spokesperson Warrant Officer Kay Nakhubele.

He said that early on Friday morning the pastor had allegedly summoned 29-year-old woman to his church in Zola to return her cellphone that he had borrowed, then threatened to strangle her if she screamed when he raped her.

Nakhubele said the woman had been taken for a medical check and was receiving counselling from police professionals.

LeornardB, while I hate the ANC, I also detest people who lie, especially when the subject matter is public information. The Constitution was written by the ANC as much as by the Freedom Front, DA, Kiss Party and every other political party that participated at CODESA where the Constitional principles, and the Constitution was drafted. Furthermore, it was this corrupt government ANC which tried to execute a murderer in the late 90s, which was taken to court by the Legal Resources Centre in a case known as the State v Mankwanyane, which had its attempts to carry out the death sentence thwarted by the Legal Resources Centre of Adv George Bizos and Adv Wim Trengove. They won the constitutional court case and the death penalty was outlawed. So please stop shamelessly lying

      SarcasticHeathen - 2013-02-09 14:16

Leonard, if people start changing the constitution on popular opinion, the ANC will take full control of this country. Believe me, the constitution is even more of a nightmare for the ANC then what it is for you.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-02-09 14:20

Having not participated at the negotiations that resulted in the drafting of the Constitution, how would you know who made "major input", more so given the fact that at the end of it all, Cyril Ramaphosa and Roelf Meyer led the ANC and the NP respectively and were responsible for breaking any deadlocks and reaching compromises? Considering how (ii) the NP pushed and successfully drafted the property clause in the Constitution in the face of the ANC's nationalisation stance at the time, (ii) how parties other than the ANC successfully had proportional representation as a clause inserted when the ANC would have wanted a winner takes all type of settlement given its overwhelming support at the time, I would say you are making things up once again.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-02-09 14:32

SarcasticHeathen that is so true. Some people here were probably still in nappies during the early 90s when the same noises were made about reinstituting the death penalty. I still remember then President Mandela saying something like: "if people insist on a referendum to determine whether or not the government should reinstitute the death penalty, the ANC will also consider whether to call a referendum to decide the question relating to private property rights." Needless to say the noises dissipated.

You can be a rapist and still be a Christian You can be a murderer and still be a Christian. You can be a liar and still be a Christian. You can be an adulterer and still be a Christian. Why can you not be a scientist and still be a Christian?

      EddyDeepfield - 2013-02-10 09:15

Its easy to dismiss "God" and therefore the Bible. You never hear from "God" directly. Every single thing ever attributed to that alleged being comes from some human. Every moral precept, every absolute behavioural injunction comes from a theologian who made it up. "God" never makes an appearance. Even if it did, we would see nothing more than an image of a human, which is to say not any more believable than the pretenders we have been suffering for centuries. The Bible is full of failed prophecies why would anyone want to read it let alone trust it?

http://www.news24.com/MyNews24/Christianity-makes-you-immoral-20120815 By propagating the notion that people are born sinners and Satan rules the world, you have given them an excuse for their bad behaviour. If you then say that their sins are forgiven, by repentance and salvation - what happens when they sin again? So the cycle of sin and repentance continues “till death do us part” or you de-convert before you go insane like many God fearing and faithful commentators on Mynews24 all ready are.

      squeegee.pilot - 2013-02-09 12:58

Here go the trolls... the word 'pastor" brought them scurrying from their holes... The issue here is rape. Whether it was a teacher, a fireman or a homeless bum; a man raped a woman. He should get all that the law allows. Scum.

      gert_swart - 2013-02-09 13:06

Exactly! Christianuts, why don't you read up and learn!

      oopkop.denker - 2013-02-09 13:24

You know Eddy, it is people like yourself that are part of the problem. Instead of judging this abhorrent act on the act alone, you'll try your utmost to propagate your own IDEOLOGY and religious beliefs - or are you one of those atheists that doesn't realise that atheism is also a religion? People like yourself are so on a TRIP to "enlighten", that you HIJACK attrocities such as this merely because it provides yet another opportunity to spread your own vitriol.

      EddyDeepfield - 2013-02-09 13:42

oopkopdinker - i see you can't refute my logical comments. Of course rape is wrong it is an act of violence against a innocent that trusted his Pastor as a man of god. Which makes it even more abhorrent. I am just explaining why Christians sin. And why most people in jail are Christians.

      Roux de boy - 2013-02-09 13:47

@oopkop - Eddy is highlighting the immorality of this Man. In his particular case, it is because he is a religious Man. Religion removes the onus from the wrongdoer the second he is "forgiven" at a "Godly" level. In effect, because he is religious, he gets a "a well the Devil made me do it" ticket. I think you're looking at this a whole lot too deeply. If you are emotional about your beliefs, by all means continue to be so - just as Eddy has the full right to highlight those exact beliefs absolute and DIRE flaws.

      squeegee.pilot - 2013-02-09 14:03

oopkop, my point exactly. No discussion can be held without the atheists attacking faith of whatever kind. They really are zealots...

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-02-09 14:08

Atheists do you have a life, other than your obsession with Christians? Are there no rapists among your kind?

      SarcasticHeathen - 2013-02-09 14:24

Of course there are, Themba. Atheists wont deny it. But we take personal responsibility for our actions. We don't blame the devil, we don't ask for forgiveness from an immaterial entity in a vain effort to comfort our own consciences. If we rape, we have to live with ourselves.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-02-09 14:37

Sarcastic Heathen, I deliberately avoid debates on religion. But on this topic specifically, I can tell you that Christianity forbids sex outside the wedlock. That is the law. Anyone who commits that is anything but a Christian taking advantage of what the Bible teaches about forgiveness. That should not be used to criticise Christians, unless the Bible expressly said they could rape, and blame something, which it does not. What it does is forbid certain things, but makes provision for those who violate the rules to be forgiven. Even atheists ask for forgiveness. There are very little, if any real differences between atheism and Christianity

      squeegee.pilot - 2013-02-09 16:40

Zatheist (That's who Atheis is) will do anything to engage me in a debate. However I don't engage trolls, I just call them out for hijacking any conversation going. I believe... I don't have to defend God. Anyone who knows Him will understand...

      EddyDeepfield - 2013-02-09 17:34

thembathwala - Rape is NOT a crime of lust as you and most people think it is, it is a crime of violence. It is a power play. And you mistakenly refer to the Bible as a source of morality. The Bible is full of bronze age morality, hardly relevant to the modern age.

      EddyDeepfield - 2013-02-09 17:35

squeegee - who you calling a troll?

      Chrysippus - 2013-02-09 17:51

Sorry, but being a Christian or believer doesn't suddenly make you a saint and rape by a believer is the same is rape by an atheist. Roux de Boy, you make me puke with your unfounded accusations against Christians and believers. Like atheitis and other atheists you think you know everything about belief. Where did you get the sypid notion from that once you are a believer you have a free ticket to sin because you are forgiven? And there might be the odd person who says that Satan made him do something, but in general Christians don't blame Satan and try and deny their own responsibility. If I use your logic, if I can't keep my tool in my pants it's OK if I become an atheist, because then at least it is not sin. Free for all for atheists. I really get angry at the accusations by atheists on this forum, bunch of hyprocrites.

      reality - 2013-02-10 07:29

      >Except that all the rapes seem s to be committed by preachers or god believers. So, Atheitis, why do you think that is? Isaiah 45:7 "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." God is Omnipresent..he has witnessed every rape scene in history God is Omnipotent..which means he could have done something about it God is Omniscient..he knew exactly what was going to happen and yet he let it happen He has created the evil which he admitted to in Isaiah 45:7

      EddyDeepfield - 2013-02-10 08:26

reality - Spot on. God witnesses every thing and does nothing. He never gets the blame for anything. Look at Chrysppus he blames mankind and NEVER God. Faith makes otherwise brilliant people stupid. God always escapes scot-free as if he does not really do anything constructive, it is a if he only exists in scripture and deluded minds. Which is of course the reality Christians do not want to accept. Christians believe in a God who is both all-powerful and the exemplification of perfect goodness, and not a God who is "barbaric" as unbelievers are convinced he is.

      EddyDeepfield - 2013-02-10 08:35

Chryspppus - As knowledge advances, the role of God retreats. Do you deny this? Do you go to the local faith healer or to the doctor when you are sick? Do farmers still pray for a bountiful harvest, or do they use fertilizer? God is no loner needed, grow up and become a man and dump your crutch.

http://www.areawidenews.com/story/1938673.html Pastor arrested for raping mentally handicapped child. Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts and Detective Aaron Presser responded to the call. The mother told Presser that one of her daughters came into her room late in the evening of Jan. 14 to explain her younger sister was crying and upset. After the mother went to speak with her daughter, she was informed that Ira Smith, 33, had forced the girl to perform oral sex on him in the home the day before, also touching her inappropriately during the incident.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Forty-four-year-old Theldon Williams faced a judge Tuesday afternoon in Raleigh after being arrested Monday night on statutory rape charges. Williams' sister told ABC11 that the father of two is a youth pastor. She said this is a case of mistaken identity. Williams is facing a number of charges stemming from alleged incidents involving a 14 year old. He remains in the Wake County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Wernerburg was a troubled youth pastor with three allegations of misconduct on record when he was arrested. HIs Church, First Baptist Church in Coalgate, allowed him to continue as a youth pastor.

Jury finds pastor guilty of indecent liberties with a child CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Thaddeus Stephen MacMoran, 27, was tried in Mecklenburg County Superior Court for statutory sex offense of a person 13, 14 or 15 years old, crime against nature, and four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. After a three-day trial, the jury returned verdicts of guilty on all counts Thursday. The Honorable Forrest D. Bridges, Superior Court Judge, sentenced MacMoran to 222-276 months in prison, according to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office. Judge Bridges also ordered that, upon his release from prison, MacMoran must register as a sex offender and enroll in satellite-based monitoring for the rest of his life. MacMoran met the victim at a church where MacMoran was serving as a youth pastor.

The alleged crime occurred at Spring Creek Baptist Church. Back in 2009 youth pastor Jonathon Giles was arrested on charges that he had sexual contact with several teen girls. Giles was said to have exchanged inappropriate text messages before and church services with one 16-year-old girl. He was also accused of asking a 17-year-old girl for sex and touching the breast of another minor teen. After the investigation revealed Giles' text message activity to the young women, he resigned from his position with the church. What are they teaching at Spring Creek Baptist Church? Oh the Gospel!

Ronald Pyles, 59, and the pastor of the Victory Harvest Ministry in North Jackson, is facing charges of two counts of rape and gross sexual imposition for raping a 20-year-old developmentally disabled woman at his shelter in 2010. Prosecutors said the alleged victim had been living at the Victory Harvest Ministry following the death of a relative. Charges said the rapes occurred during a six-month period between October 2010 and April 2011.

Pastors who murder - The former Methodist pastor stands accused of murdering his wife. The case looks pretty tight. I think Schirmer is just a few weeks from a long visit to prison. Opening statements are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. today in the trial of Schirmer, 64, the former pastor of Reeders United Methodist Church in Jackson Township accused of murdering his second wife, Betty Jean Schirmer, 56, in 2008. Authorities contend he loaded the dying woman into the couple's 2007 P.T. Cruiser and staged a low-speed car crash on state Route 715 to help substantiate what the Monroe County District Attorney's office holds was nothing more than an elaborate cover story. The trial may last as long as three weeks, and some 40 witnesses are expected to take the stand. Meanwhile, Schirmer is also awaiting trial in Lebanon County for the 1999 murder of his first wife, Jewel Schirmer, 50.

Former Baptist youth pastor Brandon James Carter accepted a plea deal that will put him in prison for less that two years for kidnapping and taking indecent liberties with a 13-year old girl. He molested the girl while she was asleep.

Religion is an enormous part of our culture as it defines the way people think, behave, and relate to one another. IMHO, religion causes many of the negative aspects of our society and I would far rather have reason, critical thinking and scientific knowledge affect our ideas and choices instead of superstition, fear, and the unproven supernatural. No one has come back from hell or heaven to tell us that they and the devil, Jesus and God are real. Christianity is the perfect crutch because it allows belief to take precedence over action. It lets people off the hook in terms of their behaviour, which really is the only sound way to form an opinion of a person. Once the thoughts going through your head become more important than what you are or do, you're a “screwed-up” individual.

      oopkop.denker - 2013-02-09 13:24

So how do you think the world should work atheitis? If God exists, do you want him to stop all bad things and only allow good? If this is how you think, you have to apply that thinking to everything, it means that one person should not earn more money than another or have nicer things, because then it will cause jealousy and then God has to prevent the one from stealing from the other again and so on. You want God to run after all of the human brats preventing them from doing bad things to one another. You want a world full of clones where all are the same, have the same, and we all live forever because you think God should not allow people to get cancer or suffer from illness. You want us to be nothing more than a game for God to play?

      oopkop.denker - 2013-02-10 06:42

The point is Eddy, you're hijacking a topic about rape to start a discussion about religion ... because your ideology blinds you so badly that you can't help but to ridicule religion at every opportunity. I'm not interested to play along, especially when people begin to ridicule other people personally based on their beliefs. It shows a criminal mentality imho. That said, according to you only bad things happen in the name of religion. There are many religious organisations that does provide an HONEST and ACTUAL safe haven for raped and abused women in an environment where their interests are really placed first.

      EddyDeepfield - 2013-02-10 08:51

oopkop.denker - The topic is not only about rape otherwise they would not have mentioned that he was Pastor. It is much more than the crime committed. Why does God do nothing when evil flourishes. Can you see that. Of course not all Christians are rapists, but they are all adulterers according to Jesus definition. Explain this to me - You can be a rapist and still be a Christian. You can be a murderer and still be a Christian. You can be a liar and still be a Christian. You can be an adulterer and still be a Christian. But why can you not be a scientist and still be a Christian?

WTF!A bloody pastor. No wonder people turn from religion, because if you can't trust your pastor/priest/reverend/Imam then who can you trust.

  • keith.recore - 2013-02-09 13:32

I wonder if the rape is more difficult to endure for the women or if reporting it and the manner in which women are treated afterwards? Prosecutors/social workers/police/healthcare have to absolutely make sure all people coming forward are treated with respect and dignity. These woman must be assured, no matter what police station they report it to, they receive consistant, professional treatment throughout the process.

  • irvin.mkhari - 2013-02-09 13:36

Why don't he pray to ask for a woman, why don't he go to the specialist if he really needed sex instead of raping.if pastors rape who can we trust since rapist are inside the churches.

      ericmsanzi - 2013-02-09 13:50

Believe me you, Church will remain a place for human solution no matter what. I do condemn rape. But its not all the pastors who rape. Why when a president rape sum1 we don't say presidents or Teachers or government leaders? But when it comes to a Pastor we blame all the Pastors and yet in Many rape cases its every kind of person involved in rape. Instead of pointing fingers let's ask the government top put stiff measures for people involved in this. You can close all the churches in S.A but you will still see more people being raped. Let's look for good solutions than to blame a position of sum1 cos we are all not perfect that's y we need Jesus.

      mapepaki - 2013-02-09 14:36

She was raped 3 X in the one day, read the article properly. Once she was in the room he locked the door and raped her 3 X's how many more times must you be told.

  • EddyDeepfield - 2013-02-09 13:46

One of the biggest problems with some in religion is that they tend to minimise and excuse suffering instead of dealing head on with it like unbelievers have to. Every tragedy is an opportunity when you're an evangelical waiting to swoop in and harvest souls when all people really need are there basic physiological needs to be met.

What is wrong with christian south africa? Rotten to the core.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-02-09 14:11

Unless you can quote a specific scripture which proves that this satanist is in fact a christian, hold you peace. What is wrong with heathens pretending to be Christians? Is their intention to give Christianity a bad name? Rotten to the core.

      SarcasticHeathen - 2013-02-09 14:35

      Satanist? What?

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-02-09 14:41

Sarcastic, Christianity teaches that Christians are under constant temptation/attack by Satan. Satanists would be Satan's followers, or those who claim to be Christian, using the Lord's name in vain, masqeurading as Christians. Live and let Christians live

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-02-09 15:17

Atheitis, you need to read this to understand the bullcrap you just wrote: Matthew 24:11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Don't stupidly assume FALSE PROPHETS masquerading as Christians are Christians boet. Use your brain

      Chrysippus - 2013-02-09 18:10

Why do you blame Christian South Africa? Is every rapist out there a Christian? Atheists never rape?

      RoyNexusSix - 2013-02-10 04:39

Yes, Chrysippus. Please provide the stats. We are waiting. And time for me is a scarcer resource than money. Your belief system is corrupt. It's followers are morally bankrupt. In most cases, they're in cahoots with the criminality you call a 'government' (Ray "Rhema" McCauley "blessing" your "dear" president a few months ago???). Now, how you deal with this FACT is your problem. I'll continue to occupy the moral high ground as a fanatical anti-christian atheist. It's not us destroying you - it's the rotting cancer within your movement that is doing such a good job! Satyat nasti paro dharma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • maluxionn - 2013-02-09 14:01

There is always two side for the story,I believe this is a relationship gone wrong. The woman said she was raped 3 times which means this was the fourth she was having sex with the pastor through rape.So what happened to the first rape, second and third?was she also threatened if she screams or report. With an uproar of rape recently I know pple will say things with emotion but we must first scrutinise these rape cases more especially of this nature where a woman visits in your house and ended up claiming she was raped when busted by here husband or boyfriend because I believe each and every rape case has got its own merit and the circumstances are not the same

      tasneem.cader.7 - 2013-02-09 14:19

Read properly. He held her in a locked room an raped her 3times.

      gert_swart - 2013-02-09 16:37

Your god is merely a delusion. Muths can nbot do anything in real life. Think a little!!!

      reality - 2013-02-10 08:15

Actually Ayanda..he might be the problem..

  • rasthami.m1 - 2013-02-09 14:07

Its a sabotage ,I believe it might have consensual then the woman expected money which the pastor couldn't provide

      siphom.mnguni - 2013-02-09 14:19

Consensual or otherwise why in the church? Oh! Of course he was seeking some divine intervention. Get off your high horse and think logical. Why this so-called pastor is not married at thirty? He is a pervert who deserve to go to jail, move direct to jail, do not pass begin and do not collect the church collection.

      rasthami.m1 - 2013-02-09 14:30

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-02-09 14:25

eish, it is as much a bad reflection as the 5 thugs who robbed motorists while masquerading as policemen. This is no different from saying rapists give a bad reflection to ALL men. Your logic does not hold.

      mokgadi.masete - 2013-02-09 14:37

Mob justice should apply. Guaranteed if rapists are released to the public for justice, rapists will soon disappear from justice. Barbaric, perhaps but most certainly no where near as barbaric as the act of rape. Then, murderous bastards etc. soon, voila, clean society.
