Johannesburg - One man died and another was injured when a car veered off the road in Slangspruit, Pietermaritzburg, on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.

"Reports indicate that the driver of the car veered off the road and collided with a pedestrian," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

"Netcare 911 paramedics and the provincial ambulance service arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian lying unresponsive on the roadway," Botha said.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

"The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was walking around on scene," said Botha.

"Paramedics treated the man and then transported him to a local hospital for the care that he required."

Police were investigating.
