Pensioner murdered for R10.40

Mokopane - Three young women, including a minor, have been found guilty by Mokopane High Court of murder for strangling a 65-year-old pensioner in her home last year and robbing her.

Patricia Kekana, 22, Itumeleng Mphahlele, 19, and the 17-year-old teenager were arrested shortly after Selina Kekana was killed at her house in Moletlane village in June 2003.

The three accused broke into the victim's house during the night and woke her. They took R10.40 before strangling Kekana and fleeing.

Kekana and Mphahlele were sentenced on Wednesday to 14 years imprisonment on charges of murder, robbery and housebreaking with intent to rob. Limpopo police spokesperson Captain Malesela Ledwaba said on Thursday. Six years of each sentence were suspended for a period of five years

The minor was sentenced to five years imprisonment on similar charges.
