2013-06-25 13:12

Bloemfontein - Four robbers stole expensive perfumes worth thousands of rand during a break-in at the Mimosa Mall in Bloemfontein, police said on Tuesday.

"It was alleged that four unknown suspects crashed opened the main entrance into the shopping mall and proceeded to Truworths clothing store," Captain Chaka Marope said of the robbery on Monday morning.

They forced their way into the shop and stole a variety of expensive perfumes before fleeing in a maroon Honda Ballade with no registration plates.

Marope said the break-in was discovered later by security guards and the police were called.

"We request the public to assist us by giving us any information about people who would be selling expensive perfumes in the streets or in their houses," said Marope.

The Security Officer on duty saw the four robbers running towards the glass door with two rocks (+- 20kg each). He (being an individual in that position) retreated and called for back-up, notified the control room and the police was phoned. A team of Security Officers was at the crime scene 2 minutes 40 seconds after the robbers was first spotted. At this time, the robbers just left the building, heading towards the get-away vehicle, with a total time of 2 minutes 50 seconds from entering the parking area until departure. The security officers ran after the vehicle and were able to get the registration number. The Police arrived 1 minute later. The process followed by the Security guards in the allocated time, as well as the response time of the Police were effective, unfortunately the robbers took only 2 minutes 50 seconds for the entire incident.
