Johannesburg - Perlemoen worth about R5m was seized when police searched a truck in Khayelitsha in Cape Town on Thursday morning, Western Cape police said.

Police received a tip-off that a maroon Toyota Dyna truck was transporting the protected perlemoen, Warrant Officer November Filander said in a statement.

A 32-year-old Zimbabwean man was arrested and would appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court on Monday.

We see these people on a regular basis at Suiderstrand in the Agulhas nature reserve and nothing is being done about it. According to this article you get a bit less than R 1000.00 per is utter nonsense and just not true.

Where there is a demand , there will be a supply - cut off the demanders through something like Interpol etc. And put a stop to this once and for all! My question lies with the customs control at our borders, how does such a huge amount of perlemoen get to leave our country? Start staking out our borders and capture the fraudsters and under-handed activity that is obviously also taking place allowing the contraband to enter/exit through our borders be it by see/land or air.
