Johannesburg - Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega on Friday praised investigators for solving the murder case of forensic auditor Lawrence Moepi.

"As management, we are extremely proud of the good work done and the excellent support we received from members of the public," she said in a statement.

"The team, in particular Detective Warrant Officer Abie Haynes, worked extremely hard, day and night, to uncover those who were behind Mr Moepi's death."

The two men convicted of his murder were handed life sentences without leave to appeal in the South Gauteng High Court.

Mpho David "Thirteen" Nkosi, 39, and Remember Siphoro, 42, were sentenced on Thursday following a three-day trial.

The investigating team was supported by the head of the detective service division Lieutenant General Vinesh Moonoo.

Nkosi and Siphoro's sentencing coincided with what would have been Moepi's 42nd birthday, the New Age reported on Friday.

The two men shot Moepi in the parking lot of the SizweNtsalubaGobodo offices in Johannesburg in October last year.

Siphoro was the father of Moepi's girlfriend's child.
