Johannesburg - Limpopo burn victim Pippie Kruger could go home soon, it was reported on Sunday.

Doctors told her mother Anice Kruger that she could go home on Tuesday, but would still have to undergo daily rehabilitation in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, according to Rapport.

It reported that 3-year-old Pippie said "Mamma" last Sunday, the first word she had spoken since undergoing a pioneering skin graft in June.

"I was so proud of her. She hasn't spoken since, but it is a start," Kruger told the newspaper.

She has been renting a flat in Melville, Johannesburg, where Pippie will go on Tuesday.

Only when Pippie was able to walk and talk would they be able to return to their hometown of Ellisras, the newspaper reported.

Pippie sustained serious burns to most of her body when a bottle of fire-lighting gel exploded in her father's hands on New Year's Eve.
