Pistorius cop 'contaminated scene'

2013-02-20 14:52

Pretoria - Oscar Pistorius's defence lawyer accused the police of contaminating the scene while investigating the shooting of Pistorius's girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, during his bail application at the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Investigating officer Hilton Botha was accused of walking without protected shoe covers in Pistorius's house in Pretoria.

Botha said he should have worn them, "but they were not around".

Roux again asked Botha if there was nothing in Pistorius's statement that was inconsistent with the scene.

"Yes at this stage," said Botha.

Roux also denied that Pistorius had a house in Italy, as claimed by the State, submitted to support its claim that he was a flight risk earlier.

However, he did have a bank account in Carolina in the US.

Pistorius has been charged with murdering Steenkamp, which he denies.

the question is irrelevant to the fact in issue

  • Riaan Coetzee - 2013-02-20 15:06

General Detectives are not issued with protective gear, only the forensic teams are. Never seen a policeman on a scene wearing protective clothing. Roux is nitpicking.

Pinching at straws Roux?? try another angle??

  • Ray Molekoa - 2013-02-20 15:13

That's SAPS for you , and he has the nerve to make a statement on a poorly investigated case for the sake of closing the docket . As for classifying the case a schedule 6 , Roux and company will prevail . However , the must be justice in this case , punishment must suite the crime .

How petty are these lawyers. He killed Reeva. The circumstances are in question. FFS get it over and send him either to jail or an institution

Mr Roux I understand that you are trying to impress your client, but this time you have picked up a lousy loop hole to hang on, you client has murdered a person and the perfect investigation from the police uncovered that, so let's concentrate on what you client is accused of, there's no time of blaming the police here!!

A clear case of incompetent police work, what a shoddy work this man has done,Botha you are a disapointment....

  • Russel Meyer - 2013-02-20 15:32

They must must kick Botha out. We need Horatio Caine for this case.

  • Tello Moleko - 2013-02-20 15:51

Riaan Cotzee please educate this two young boys,Molekoa and Stander whom and when to wear protective shoes,i think this two they might wear them in the morning while home

      Riaan Coetzee - 2013-02-20 15:59

Armchair detectives. People watch csi, and think that is how every case is done. Not even every case in America is done that way.

thanks Ndlovu, eeeh boys,Molekoa and Stander did u hear what Mr Ndlovu said, tomorrow you write the test boys

  • syd.dollman - 2013-02-20 16:18

What has Botha actually done to check the integrity of his evidence? Nothing? If I knew I was going to have to lock horns with a advocate of that calibre, I would make sure there were no loop holes in my evidence. Maybe he thought the states case was going to win itself. Me thinks this douche bag is going to walk away with a small slap on the wrist!!!

  • Khethu Ndlovu - 2013-02-20 16:41

By the time the trial is over, the shooter will be just as broke as wiseman7 and the lawyer will have all his millions but he will still be in jail. Lawyers!

  • arthur.salvado - 2013-02-20 17:22

Our cops have screwed up and Oscar will walk. Contamination of the crime scene in many cases is cause enough to chick he case out of court. My bet (any takers?) is that Oscar will walk away with a suspended sentence and a caution. The law as usually only applies to the poor. OJ all over again. Lots of money for the movie rights. EISH viva , no money for the correct equipment. Wonder where all the money's gone.
