Pistorius to hold own service for Reeva

2013-02-26 18:26

Johannesburg - Murder-accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius will hold a private memorial service for his slain girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Tuesday evening, his reputation management company said.

"Oscar Pistorius will hold a private memorial service for Reeva Steenkamp at the house of his uncle, Arnold Pistorius, tonight [Tuesday night]," Vuma Reputation Management said in a statement.

"Oscar specifically requested the memorial service as he continues to grieve and remains in deep mourning for the loss of his partner Reeva."

It asked the media to respect Pistorius's privacy.

"Since it is such a sensitive issue, Oscar has asked for a private service with people who share his loss, including his family members who knew and loved Reeva as one of their own.

"The Pistorius family would like to make a personal request to the media, to please respect their privacy at their home in Pretoria tonight [Tuesday night]."

It was unclear exactly what Pistorius's service would consist of or how many people would attend.

Exactly a week ago, a memorial service was held for Steenkamp in Port Elizabeth.

Her body was cremated following a private service.

Durette The only person Oscar is mourning for is himself.

Cats I adore you. Are you a writer? You should be.

      nurse.helenk - 2013-02-26 21:10

Cats there IS outrage and not just before this latest PR story. If you read the comments on news24 about this case, it's clear ALOT of people are not happy with what is going down. We are allowed to express our opinions and beliefs and no be bullied by anyone into not having a say. Our constitution allows us to do so, as long as we do it in a non-threatening manner. People are allowed to protest, demonstrate and strike if they feel things are unfair. So people must not come here and try to silence our mere WORDS about a cringeworthy PR stunt about a man who has by his own admission taken someone else's life, be it accident or not.

      johan.mostert.967 - 2013-02-27 08:46

Exactly. You are so right Lynette

      Colleen - 2013-02-26 20:03

The only pain he is feeling, is the pain of having to answer for killing her. This is so obviously a publicity effort to try to change the public's negative image of him.

  • Refilwe Faith Makaepea - 2013-02-26 19:45

  • Stewart Croucamp - 2013-02-26 19:45

So the South African public have already found Oscar guilty. Why bother with a court case. I hope he wins his case and moves to another country. How you wasted your time on this country and its people Oscar. You are still a hero to many people in the world. Pity about the ACCIDENT.

In the Anene case we know there were DNA tests done. Hopefully the correct procedures were followed. The ex said today it was a case of mistaken id, if his DNA says otherwise, we might see justice.

      Karen Webber - 2013-02-26 19:57

so true but Oscar fans dont get it

      Heather Campbell Matthewson - 2013-02-26 20:17

ummmmm!! he has!! for all those jumping on the ban wagon - he sent a handwritten card to the Steenkamps! They have not yet commented on it because they are grieving - understandably so .

      Colleen - 2013-02-26 20:58

Reeva's mother did comment on the flowers and 2 cards from the Pistorius's. She said "What does it mean? Nothing." And I agree with her. Any normal boyfriend who somehow accidently killed his girlfriend would have wanted to personally explain and apologize to the parents of his girlfriend within hours of the event. Not wait 8 days until he is freed on bail.

OP's lawyer will have his work cut out for him just trying to juggle his client's case never mind trying to sue thousands of people! What a joke. The whole issue around the suing issue pertains to slander on FaceBook, not public forums such as this one.

      Louis - 2013-02-26 20:28

Abdul to tell you the truth I am a bit of a conservative and stoning in public for Anene's murderers seems like a leftist plot! 100 lashes for 100 days and then a mercy stoning should justabout do it...but thats just me

Abdul, Anene was not white, if she was the people commenting on here would have commented on there as well. But then you know that.

  • Sakhile Makhathini - 2013-02-26 20:12

I give up. Oscar is a lost case. Why pull the stunt? He should have asked for permision to see Reeva parents and explain to them what had happened. It was up to them to allow him to grieve for him. This is an insult to Reeva's family

      Karen Webber - 2013-02-26 20:22

that would have been the right thing to do i agree

      Mandisa Mandy Mhlongo - 2013-02-26 21:39

Did they say,he never asked them? Fill me in u people know a lot about oscar,as for us who don't know wats going on are he never asked the Steenkamps? He just did it without their permission? Or maybe he did ask them, that's why he is doing it? Let's wait maybe if the Steenkamp knew nothing about it and Oscar had not asked them,I'm sure they will voice out their fustrations although they are a dignified family, who don't talk any how.
