HOWICK’S animal-lover plastic surgeon has received flak from the public after false rumours of her operating on animals in her day-clinic began circulating last week.

Plastic surgeon Dr Bronwen Schoenfeld, who performed life-changing surgeries on a Yorkshire Terrier last year and a Jack Russell named Cody last month, said she heard rumours were circulating about her operations on her furry friends around Howick and Pietermaritzburg last week.

“I have no idea what could have motivated these rumours. Both operations on the dogs were done at the Midlands Vet, after work hours in my own time. It has never been an option to operate on animals at my day clinic and it never will be an option,” she said.

She added that she had been receiving calls from people asking her to operate on their animals.

“I am not a vet and have no training as a vet. People should always take their pets to the vet if there is a problem.

“If a vet calls about an animal that needs my expertise then I will gladly help,” she said. “Although I am an animal lover, caring for my human patients will always be my first priority and the animal surgery will never compromise this in any way.”
